There’s six who could beat him. Not saying they all will, but they’re certainly capable. I don’t see him beating Geerts, Vlaanderen or Olsen. But there’s no disgrace in that.

I don't know about Geerts. His starts have been horrible and he's likely not going to carve through the best 450 riders in the world like he did in MX2. Cooper usually gets great starts - important for the MX2 rider

He’s been the second best rider in the sand in MX2 for the last couple of years. He has been a bit out of form recently, but I expect him to be really strong at the MXdN.

No doubt about that!
The only issue I see is the start. They should give him 1st gatepick in both motos

I think in 99% of situations you should probably give the MX2 guy the better gate. In theory it should be easier for the 450 guys to get a decent start from the outside, or come through from the back if they don’t make a decent start

Hmm, his starts got better in the last GP's (usually between 3rd and 6th) . What bothers me more are his crashes. Not big Gajser-step-offs, but they've cost him time and points too many times this season. It seems to me he has put too many pressure on himself considering the battle with Vialle for 3rd in the standings, which made him more nervous as necessary.

I think that was his problem at RedBud aswell. His first MXoN, nervous, and put too much pressure on himself. He was 11th in practice, 18th in qualifying race and 13th-18th in the races, while everyone (himself included) knows he can/could do much better.

I hope he can calm down a bit in his head.

As the entry list has grown and updated, my opinion on this has actually changed. I see him finishing higher with the number of MX2 guys not racing. On paper, I see him as a top 3 at this point. And I have posted that in the other thread since... I don't see anyone in Open ahead of Zacho other than GC. Ando has the toughest class and his results I believe will determine the USA's finish... Just my opinion and based on everything normal, decent starts, no bike issues, etc.

I love Zacho but he will have a lot on his plate with Tonus, Jonass and most importantly Coldenhoff. Zacho won't have anything for him.

You don't really know how it works at a Nations, do you?
Top 7 MX2 rider means he will finish around 15th-20th place in the races... That's probably NOT good enough for a podium. To get to the podium the 250-rider should at least get 1 result close to the top 10.

Tonus is questionable right now and may not even race... Jonass is the only other rider that I see running close to that pace. GC is the overwhelming favorite in Open, but I think Zach is next. If you look at Assen and Lommel results for the rest of the Open class guys over the last 2-3 years, it's not pretty.

I know it well... Have attended and been watching it for 40+ years.

What I will say, is that your reading comprehension sucks...

Yeah right, I read it well. Team USA will do good I think, but Cooper will have to work his ass of against al those 450's in the heavy sand. He really needs a (close to) top 10-spot.

Unless Cooper looks like a fish out of water in sand, which I doubt will happen, then I see him being the 3rd or 4th best MX2 rider. There's definitely some fast sand riders in Europe, but I don't think Cooper not being at his best is such a downgrade where he gets beat by EMX250 riders. If every country had their #1 250 rider, (France Ferrandis, Australia Lawrence, etc) then I can see him being the 6th/7th best MX2 rider, but with the riders racing, not that bad. I think Cooper will finish around 12th-15th in the motos, being 3rd or 4th in MX2. France doesn't have Ferrandis or Vialle, Prado is racing MXGP, Lawrence is injured, and Netherlands has a rookie in Van De Moosdijk who's really quick, but also crashes a LOT. I can see Cooper winning the MX2 category to be honest, but realistically I see Geerts being the best MX2 rider in the sand.
