Looking to buy one of these dirt bikes. Either the 2019 YZ250F or KTM 250 SX-F. Currently leaning towards the YZ250F.

Any opinions / suggestions?

From a maintenace/working on perspective, is the YZ250F easy to work on? I know the KTMs generally are very easy to work on.

Why not get a Suzuki ? Or a 250f with the least amount of HP?

I would say that KTMs aren't that easy to work on. You need a mechanical engineering degree to get the shock off without taking the swing arm off. I have a friend who owns a shop, he's certified Yamaha and Kawasaki mechanic and he won't work on a KTM.

The KTM (if the 2019 is anything like previous years) makes its power so high in the RPM range that a beginner will likely not use it, making the bike seem rather mellow and tame. However, once you get some experience and can get into the meat of the power, it's there waiting to be used.

If he can't figure out working on a KTM I would suggest that no one go to him Grinning

Power tuner on the yz seems like an awesome feature to quickly tune the bike to your level, conditions, or riding style.

Question about those spring forks. Why are they better? Wouldn't the 'air' forks be better? Just wondering..whats the pros/cons?

I’m in the same boat but I’m deciding between a KTM 250 and 350 and a YZ250F. The YZ forks work better and you don’t have to mess with them every time you ride. If I get a KTM I am putting spring forks on it.

All you do is unbolt the linkage and the shock can wiggle out the bottom. No need to take the swingarm off..

I’d probably go with the YZ250F for the same reason someone talked about above - the KTM 250’s power is all up top.

Ignore the morons talking shit here.. my only question is if you are a beginner then why buy a 2019? Buy a good second hand bike and spend some money on riding schools or something. Unless you have $$ to burn then go nuts

I’ve hated every bike I’ve ridden with air forks but that’s me. I would say not having to set the air would make it more beginner friendly. It’s mostly a performance thing for me.
