I feel like Rip Van Winkle, like i woke up and a new big bike is a down payment on a house. Is this price tag nuts or am I too far removed to appreciate this expensive as F bike?

No one is making anyone buy the limited edition models. Go grab a rmz450 for 6500$ or less if you're on a budget.

I know for a fact that the ones the dealers had here by me in southern California went for much more than $11500. Hell I know plenty of guys that spend around that on a new mountain bike every year.

Fair enough, I am clearly old and budget conscious. *shakes cane

Back in my day, one could walk out of a dealership with a new YZ250 or CR250 for 6K, OTD.

And I'm 35. I'm not that old!

The stakeholders of the sport are going to kick themselves come 2025 or so when no one is participating due to increased cost, generational turnover, and the next recession/depression.

I'm glad I got interested in mountain biking and golf. Those are quite affordable and accessible in suburbia.

I’m honestly surprised surprised they have one to advertise, the 4 my local dealer got were pre purchased the moment they were able to be ordered. Full MSRP no negotiations.

What kind of house are you buying where $12k is enough for a down payment? But for real it is getting expensive.

Add up what it would cost to put all the bits on a standard CRF450R, then ask the question again...you might find yourself saying what a bargain instead.

Or ask how much fun is that 1000 used bike? Fun as heck! Pretty much just as fun! Just got to eat the comments from those that spent a 2nd mortgage. Unless you got money to burn, or are chasing the factory sponsor, no need to spend the big bucks.

I have had a small local Mx parts store/workshop earlier, I closed that shit.

seriously, motocrossers are tight arsed cheapskates overall! If it's parts, labor, tires or pretty much everything "it's too expensive"
Yeah, try Roadracing instead and please report back. This sport is CHEAP compared to other motorsports..

I am a roadracing novice who run in the fast group in Sweden, and intermediate group on the bigger trackdays I've attended to in europe. And 3 days of training is between 2000-2500$ including tires, track fee, accomodation and fuel. That's without crashes, last crash was 1500$ and that was an easy lowsider..

I've even met people who complain about having to pay for pictures of themself from race photographers.Huh

Look. The WE is worth the money if you look at what you get. Lets say you get a normal CRF 450 and want to make the same upgrades to it.

Slip-on: At least 500 bucks for a Ti slipon

The fork coatings: 1k

The ported head: I don't know the average price of a porting, but i would imagine that its at least 500?

Stronger rims: I know that A60 rims retail for 250 each?

A guy i know bought those old BBR frames for the crf50s for god knows how much.
He then complained about out dealer being 5$ over the price he had to pay for oil filters online...

I know a few who tried to buy the WE here in sweden for full retail no questions asked, but i dont think a single WE made it to europe?

Can someone tell me why people are outraged at an $11,000 price tag for a brand new full bore fully loaded race machine? Literally theres millions of 50 year old dudes spending $30,000 on harleys that have a comfy seat and a stereo and zero performance anything. Supersports are $16,000+.

You guys arent buying razers from walmart. Theyre literally high end high tech race bikes.

If you don’t like it don’t buy it. Want to know why I buy the new bikes that I want? Because riding is my escape from it all and one day when I’m on my way out of this world, I don’t believe I’ll be thinking “ gee, I should have saved my money on those new bikes”

Buy the cheapest new bike and ride it as it is...... Tire pressure and set the sag nobody on this site needs anything more. Just a Dick Swinging contest in the pits IMO

Normal KTM 450 price
Negative, Nice try though. I paid $8850 for my 15 450FE, 9k for my 16, $9200 for my 17 and $9500 my current 18 450 FE. It obviously helps to have connections but it is what it is. The best part is that I sold each of them for 8K when the season was over. I just sold my buddy's 18 KXF450 that was absolutely mint and had 1.5 hrs on it for $5500 and it took me 3 months to sell it. He paid $8500 for it. My teammate switched to Husky for the 2nd half of our season for contingency reasons. I sold both of his 18 450FE's in less than 2 days and I got 10K for one that he'd never ridden and $9300 for his race bike that had 11hrs on it. Just one more reason why I ride KTM.

And have you seen how much cars are now!!?!? I guess if it’s too expensive then maybe don’t buy it. There’s also people that think it’s awesome to have the option of a WE. But please, if you cant afford it or don’t want it, bitch about it.

Inflation plus less buying power. That’s why the bitcing about prices. Wages have been flat in the US for 10 years. Huge dip in 2008 and a rough/flat recovery since. Have we seen the tariff impact yet? That will be really swell.
Prices of basics like electric, water, homes in general, it’s not great. Most need two incomes to live the dream. Daycare/aftercare raises your kids. Millennials home till 30. World going to hell! Where are my jorts and dad sneakers?!
Get off my lawn!

11,500 is a down payment on a house in which state? In Southern CA that's going to get you maybe a shed in the back of someone's property. Grinning

You know, I was thinking about this the other day... When they originally came out a YZ400 was only $100 more than a YZ250. Basing off of that, why does a 2019 yz450 cost $2000 more than a 2019 yz250? Is that because of R&D? Did they realize that they couldn't build them that cheap anymore? Or do the manufactures know that serious racers will pay top dollar for these bikes?

Then I wonder about the Kawi and Suzuki rebates. Even Yamaha lately too. The 18's are down to $6299 for Yamaha and even lower for Suzuki and Kawi. Are they losing money on these bikes? I doubt it. Dealer might be though.

Things I've been thinking about lately.

I was being facetious. Its been a while since I priced out a new scooter. I was just blown away at the price. I get that its stacked with goodies and there is value as a package deal.
