Asking for a buddy. On the new Suzuki I’ve seen a few bikes with the older style shock. With jgr being one is it just the new akit for the 18 or can you swap an older stock shock on to the 18?

No. The previous RM-Z 450 shock will not work. It is not the length or mounts, it is the reservoir that hits the frame. I do know that one model of the Ohlins will fit.

No previous RM-Z or Showa kit shock body will fit the new frame. Part of the reason why Matty B is still running a production BFRC in SX...

Probably this one, but it's all new.

That definitely looks like the older style shock body.

That’s a new billet “Works” Showa body that’s been made for that bike. My comment was aimed towards a kit shock the public can buy. The shock JGR and Hanny have isn’t available to the public....Bisceglia doesn’t even have one.

Hansen gets direct help from Showa.

None of the previous RM-Z bodies or kit Showa shocks will fit the new frame. A few guys are running a newer KTM shock body and adjuster with the previous RM-Z shaft, clevis and piston in it.

The new bike's linkage ratio is different, also. There is a WP body that fits. There's an Ohlins that fits, too.

Some of you are looking at a shock that you think is the "old" shock; but, the location of the reservoir is quite a bit different.

The trick question: what does one of those Showa Billet Bodies go for? Because, I'm thinking the '17 RMZ450 internals fit.

Couple thousand dollars and they fit because it’s still a traditional shock, not a BFR.

Maybe someone could just chop off the reservoir and weld up a connection for a remote setup?

Photos of the WP unit installed. Appears to be off an older KTM model, prior to 2016.

The design and characteristics of that shock don’t lend itself to Supercross...Showa has a Works version of this shock and I’ve only seen one rider line up with it...RV...and it was off the bike the following weekend. Quite a few riders on different brands have tested it and none have committed to lining up with it due to the feel.

Could a good welder cut the reservoir off and weld back innthe right spot?

With the BFR it’s not the resovoir but the internal design that’s the problem...

And in the case of rewelding a prior year shock, no...it wouldn’t work...

As mentioned prior, there’s an Ohlins shock available, then KYB, Showa, and WP all have kit shocks in the works.
