2018 CRF 250r Thread

Has anybody received theirs yet? Mine’s coming this week. Figured we could start a thread for owners. Something we could use as a informative thread for setup and aftermarket parts etc.

So far I’ve got the following ready to slap on it:
Acerbis full plastic kit
Motocal Custom Graphics
Different grip combos
Hour meter
TM lower chain guide
Twin Air radiator sleeves
Factory Connection Radiator braces
Renthal 13t front sprocket and 49T rear
DID Gold chain
Steering Stabilizer

I’m sure there are a few more nic nacs I’m forgetting too. I’m not getting anything performance wise like an exhaust because I’d like to wait to see some tests before purchasing one. Although I think I may go ahead and throw the 1 tooth bigger rear sprocket on from the get go. I also have my suspension guy lined up for a work over soon as I break it in and get a feel for the stock setup as a base line.

One thing I plan on doing is wiring the stupid safety start clutch switch closed. I don’t know if it had a resistor in-line (I can’t imagine it would) but I’ll test it to see if it does. I actually plan on wiring an inconspicuous toggle switch as a anti-theft device.

I have just got a 2018 CRF450R and did exactly what you are planning to do....

I have an 18 450 and I cut the wires and soldiered them. Right after that ML mentioned that you can take one of the connector wires out of the harness plug and plug it into the other one. I didn't even think of that.

Be careful with the type of switch you use or the direction it's mounted. Big hits could switch the bike off. I learned about this stuff racing electric rc cars.

Could any new owners post up service intervals from the owners manual?

Got mine last Friday! I love this bike.
Rode it in the medium mode for awhile and then switched it to aggressive map and wow it really awoke the beast! Definitely can feel the week spot in the power curve at low end but if you ride it high in the Rpms you would never feel it. The motor just won’t stop
pulling uptop either!
I have a vortex ecu on the way and working on getting exhaust.

Nice scooter man!

Well I found out even though the plastics are the same across the board for the 2017-2018 CRF 450 and 2018 CRF 250 the radiator braces don’t. But they do with a little work. If you’re like me and don’t want to crush your radiators read on. Because the earliest Works Connection told me it would be late Jan before they’d have some.

The problem is the left brace. The DLC (Data Link Connector) bracket hits the brace and the brace also shoved in on the upper outer radiator hose. All you have to do is take a pair of channel locks and slightly squeeze the DLC bracket in a little bit. Then notch about a 1” piece out of the upper lip of the brace. Fits like and glove and you don’t have to wait 2 months.

Yes it is on their website. I was told it is the same (plug wise) ecu as: kawi 250/450, suzuki 250/450, ktm, husky, and 17-18 crf450 so i just bought one from a 2017 crf450 from a buddy. Then the base map just has to be purchased from vortex and loaded onto the ecu.

I have the vortex program
If I buy one. used vortex from what years KTM Suzuki kawasaki works in crf
Vortex proggram have 200 au used vortex have about 300-350 us
New vortex have about 650 euro
Save over 200-250 euro

I would think notching the radiator brace like that takes the strength out of it. The bend in the metal along the edge makes the brace not bend easy.
12/9/2017 5:47am
I thought that too but I can tell you it doesn’t after doing it. I talked to Factory Connection’s engineer spearheading the project and he said it indeed would be late Jan for silver braces and 1 week later for black braces to be ready. I bought them on Black Friday sale so it was worth it to me to try and utilize the deal I got on them plus not risk smushing these soft as butter radiators.
