2018.5 Factory Edition Foot Peg Springs breaking

6/7/2018 6:27am Edited Date/Time 6/10/2018 11:11pm
Hey,

I have under 5 hours on my new bike and I have broke two left side springs and one right. (left and right last night).

Could the dealer who PDi'd bike put them on incorrectly? Did I put the replacement on wrong.

Could someone help me?????

Does the older model 2015 for example work.

Not had that problem! Only problems we've had is the graphics peeling off and the rear sprocket chipping two teeth, other than that we are close to 14 hours and we have loved the bike!!!!!

Not sure where you're at, but Rocky Mountain MC has them in stock and could probably get them to you before the weekend.

Also, if you have a Husky dealer nearby you could check there as well, same part.

Both of mine broke on my 250sx in an hour or so, I got new ones for like 3 bucks and they've been good for dozens of hours.

Happens on all the newer KTM's.

I have a few spares in the parts box now, they break if they are installed correctly or not. The rear brake lever spring is another one...

Yeah I’ve got a buddy with a fc250, he’s been through a handful of them as well. I wonder if there’s a heavy duty replacement out there?

euro engineering. durability isn't important like it is to the Japanese.

over building parts to withstand a measure of stress above anticipated use case is not a design criteria.

Suppliers are not located on the same island, and arguably subject to more aggressive pricing pressure than JDM suppliers.

customers as beta testers is an acceptable business practice.

planned obsolescence is an acceptable method to protect future revenue.

Weren't some people using the old style springs as a remedy? I haven't broke one yet.

They literally cost $1.17 each. Throw a couple in the toolbox and call it a day. Probably spent 200 times that in salary $$$ total in talking about it in this thread. Laughing

They hold quite a bit of tension and the angle is compact, careful it doesn't go flying across the garage or pits or take out an eye.

It very well may have been a rock, but the bike hasn't been to any tracks known to have rocks. Here is a pic of one of the broken teeth, at the top left.

I’ve got a 2016 and have broken multiple foot peg springs within a few hours. I keep 3 or 4 spare springs for each side...it’s a known weak point.

i saw your handwaving in numerous ktm threads on here, so you're clearly biased and i won't bother collecting anecdotal data points to dwarf your own.

If you were at least as knowledgeable as you are biased, i'd figure you would have pointed the OP to the below though:

broke a peg spring on my 17 350 the same day as the rear brake spring, no crashing, maybe it was ruts?
broke a second one last month on my 18 450, put a new one on and no problems since then. I saw it happen to others before it happened to me, I think MXA said something about it at some point. no big deal, they are inexpensive.

One peg spring broke on my 250FE 2015. Several 2016 KTM's and a 2018 450 FE with no broken springs.

Get a Honda brake spring. Way thicker and has a rubber cover.
