I just purchased a 2017 TC 250 with 4.4hrs on it, went for a test ride and it felt like a crf100. I pulled the carb and it has a 42.5 pilot 430 main stock clip middle position. It would just not clear out and get into the power. I would like to ride this weekend if i can get the jetting a bit more dialed in. I have read about the jetting woes of the tmx carb but at this time it is what I have to work with. I'm in eastern NC and its 98 deg at the moment. Any jetting suggestions would be much appreciated.

Only 4 hours in a 2017, maybe pull apart the carb and ensure all the jets are actually open and not clogged. On my 250sx I'm running a 460 main and 35 pilot but it's not that hot here yet. Also, check the power valve setting/spring.

I am new to the KTM/Husky bikes so I apologize a head of time for all the newb questions. I have combed the forums the past week reading about all the jetting issues and what not. I'm going to drop pilot jet size this evening and lean the needle out some to see if that helps.

I agree with jeffro on AJ's specs. I live in the Charlotte area and run his specs on a '17 KTM. It made a night and day difference with how the bike runs.

Here are AJ's specs that I am running

MJ 470
PJ 32.5
Slide 5.75 (comes from a 04 KX125)
Needle 42-75 (KTM optional part)
Needle Clip 3rd pos.
AS 1.5 or 2.0
60:1 motorex using VP C12

I would make sure the power valve is actually working pop one the covers off and make sure it's moving. Then I would toss that Mikuni and get a keihin carburetor for it save yourself a bunch of headaches.

I would also check this. Had one screw on PV mechanism back out jamming PV in closed position. Felt like an XR200.

That will be the first thing I check when I get home this evening. Makes sense bc that is exactly what it felt like. Local dealership didnt have any smaller pilots so I ordered the JD jet kit, going to mess with it more tonight. I am hoping to at least be able to ride Sunday afternoon.

Look into the long bolt idler gear mod for these. There is a thread in the tech section. Its easy and worth the piece of mind.

Pulled both sides of the PV covers and no bolts are loose. Not really sure how to move it around as I’m new to pv’s. It has the yellow spring and I set at 2 turns in, going to try with the needle leaned out some and see what happens. JD jet kit should be here Friday

Just start the bike up and Rev the engine, or just pop the arm off the power-valve and move it with your fingers.

Leaning out the needle seemed to help quite a bit, also went to a 450 main which was the biggest I had

The issue has more to do with the slide. Once you have the fixed, you will be able to jet it correctly. Had the same issue when I bought my '17

Do this right here^^^^, I had the same issue with a 300 and was like wtf this is not right. Even if your jetting was that far off it would eventually pull strong on top. But with yours doing what it is, has to be PV related.

Mine was on the left (clutch) side of the bike. Could also pull the pipe and see if the PV flap will move freely.

If all that is ok, I would check the float height and reeds. Lots of posts on both of these issues.

That's a good point right there too....check those reeds. Seems a lot of them had bad gaps ( my 125 and 250 both were terrible ). You can live with it , but the thing is , quite a few had those reeds break off and go through the motor. I replaced both mine as an insurance policy. I went with a V-force on the 125 , and a Rad valve on the 250.

The JD jet kit is garbage. Its a band aid fix at best and the bike still doesn't run great. If you want it to run like it's supposed to you're going to have to change the slide, needle, and needle jet. Once you get this carb jetted correctly you don't have to mess with it all the time like everyone says you do.

Remember, less is more. Can always file a bit further and don't be scared to do this.

And as previously mentioned, do the long bolt mod for the idler gear...may save some headaches
And is easy to do. Make sure you do this.

Interesting about the KX slide. I borrowed the slide from my '04 KX and put it in my KTM and WOW!!!!!! I did the "Jarvis Mods" on my existing KTM slide and that helped, but still not quite like the KX's slide. I should just go ahead and order a new slide and toss it in the KTM.

The Jarvis Mods are way more than just that Squid, worth it to do all of them. Easy enough too, completely transforms the Mikuni.

Bike is finally running about like it should, I installed the JD jet kit blue needle 3rd clip, 32.5 pilot and the largest main that came in the kit, fuel screw at recommended setting and it felt better but still not where it should have been so I took the Dremel to the slide and that little bit made all the difference in the world. Im sure my jetting isn't perfect bc it still leaks a little from the silencer, but it is a completely different bike. I'll get to the dyno in the next week or so to see how close I got. Thanks for all the advice.
