Anyone here ever ride the Sherco 300 2 stroke? If so, how does it compare to the likes of KTM and Husky?

Anyone have a reccomendation on which bike, KTM/Husky, Beta, Gas gas or Sherco is best for hard enduro type of riding?

Any experiences or insight would be awesome. Thanks!

For hard enduro I think the KTM/Husky's are the GI Joe.

We have all the above bikes in our group of riders. All agree the KTM/Husky is best for hard enduro.

The Sherco looks like sex on wheels though.

Sherco was E2 and EnduroGP champ last year.

http://shercoforum.com/

Beta was E3 (300 2 stroke) World champ 1st and 2nd last year.

https://thumpertalk.com/forums/forum/353-beta/

Gas Gas is a brand new model and company, the jury is still out.

KTM/Husky is King Kong. with over 10 different types of off road championships, most small companies can't attend them all.

If the counterbalancer hasn't already made your choice for you...(and, imo, it absolutely should have) here's what I think

unless you have to be different there is no reason to buy anything other then a KTM. they are all good bikes...have good race results, good consumer reviews, and all of them are built and assembled to a very similar standard.

I have ridden the GG, and the Beta, and I can tell you (I have 2 TX300's, and have owned a handful of KTM 300/250's), there is nothing weird about them or anything. They all feel lightweight, have stout bottom-end response, conservative wheelbases, and for the most part, felt completely normal.

one thing to think about is parts supply. another thing is aftermarket support. KTM has a huge advantage here, even compared to Husky. I can't even get an aftermarket tank for my Husky. If it was KTM XC 300 there are no less then 7 options available for aftermarket tanks.

If I had to do it again, I would have just got the KTM instead of the Husky for better aftermarket support. My decision to go Husky was related to aesthetics.

And I'll add, the biggest reason I'm even considering sherco is because a local shop just became a dealer. I am absolutely leading toward ktm/husky. Im still on the fence whether I should get an xc or xcw model. I mainly ride the hard enduro type of stuff, but I still like to run it wide open like the old racing days.

GAS GAS is new? okee dokee...

GAS GAS- founded in 1985

Sherco -founded in 1998

the Jury is not out. its official, GAS GAS is a multi-time World Championship manufacturer, and very well respected. and I'm pretty sure their current chassis is at least 4 years old.

great post though...

I think he ment new ownership maybe. My old man had a gas gas 200 about 6 or 7 years ago. He loved it. I had a beta 450 and hated it. But I'm not a fan of any 4 strokes.

Gas Gas are as heavy as hell. Not sure about the new ones but in the past they all have been.

Old mate just bought a new TM 144 EN. No one can get near him. The thing is a weapon!

well, if low speed is really your main objective, then 300cc is what you want.

they all work really well for that type of stuff. If you want a broader power output, the 250 is actually better- it revs further and more eagerly.

Personally, I like a very aggressive power curve, and i hate low-rpm chuggers. With KTM/Husky, there are the parts out there to tailor power delivery. On my TX 300 (any KTM 300), I re-cut the head and fiddle with cylinder mapping (by raising the cylinder and lowering the transfer port) and I'm using a 2013 SX 250 ignition. you loose almost everything great about the bottom end chug, but the gains in top-end are phenomenal.

If a TM isn't on your list for consideration it should be. Phenomenal woods weapon truly ready to rip out of the box. Build quality is superb.

A mate just bought the new 144 and 300. The 300 has been ridden once since he bought it Tongue .

Bit pricey though, the 144 was 11,800.00 AUD with no rego.

Yes, your Husqvarna is a company with such a great history that the current ownership has nothing but the name.

Gas Gas went Bankrupt and closed down. Torrot bought the name and tooling. It is an all new bike that has yet to arrive in dealers.

Here's someone who has ridden a lot of the bikes, not the Sherco though, they seldom offer test bikes in the US, Euro maybe?

I'm going to be getting myself a Beta 250RR when they come out. Significantly cheaper than KTM. I too like the lower seat height of these bikes. And the 2018 models have shaved off 4 kgs / 10 lbs!

2-strokes are alive and well in this thread. KTM and Yamaha are not the only brand new bikes available, and you don't have to chase down a Craig's List special and rebuild a 10 year old bike. These bikes are full of new technology and not stuck in the last decade. Any one of them would make a fine and fast MX bike.

i dont give a shit what brand bike i ride. Im not a fanboy.

Anyway, you are living proof that PR really does work. GasGas has new owners. Thats it. And the bike is already out. Its essentially the same motorcycle, with new specs. Of course they're going to say its all new.

That's what makes the deal for me. I run a rekluse and would never buy another bike ever again that you had to kick start. We're way beyond that now.

I've rode both a '17 husky te 300 and the sherco '17 se-r 300 factory offroad. They're both great bikes... I prefered the sherco as it felt smoother, revved further and had stiffer more comfortable suspension. The husky has a lower seat height and has a stock suspension setting more suited to extreme riding (a revalve will sort as both bikes have the same WP fork and shock). I would personally buy the sherco as they're cheaper and don't give anything up to the husky.

The 2011 Gas Gas EC300 Nambotin I rode a few years back was the best damn three hours I've ever spent on two wheels. That is the perfect engine in a dirt bike.

At mid Ohio vintage days last month Gas Gas had a little course laid out and you could test ride a 17 250 and 300 and an 18 300. The 18 300 did everything better than the 17. The 18 has kyb suspension and it was light years better than whatever the 17 had (marzocchi I think). It was a decent bike. I also have a 17 xcw 300. The 18 gas gas still didn't turn as well, felt heavier and was under powered compared to my KTM.

Sorry but the new gas gas is a whole new bike. All but the engine is completely new. You are thinking about the 17 gas gas that is the same as the 15... But the new 18 is completely different
