2017 RMZ 450 VS 2018 RMZ 450

6/20/2018 10:33am Edited Date/Time 6/22/2018 3:36am
So, wich would you rather have a 2017 RMZ 450 with spring forks or 2018 RMZ 450.
i was thinking because there are a couple really good deals on 2017 around me and was thinking i would buy one and add a ohlins spring fork for it or dall soggio inserts, that 1000€. if i buy the 18 i would probably need to do something to the shock on it.
Thanks,

the 2018 with it's spring fork and maybe a revalve on the shock. Unless the 17 was drastically cheaper and you just ride for fun and don't truly care.

I have a 16 rmz450 with kyb Facrory kit, spring forks, and kit shock. I don't feel any need to update to an 18 at this stage.

The 17 with a SFF spring conversion and racetech revalve is a very good bike, the 18 with a rear linkage and racetech revalve is also a very good bike, I would solely go on price as these are both excellent bikes.

if it is that much cheaper, then I would get the 17.

I really wonder what makes the 18 that much better than the 17, aside from suspension? It’s not really any lighter and is the motor that much improved?

I would think the rear suspension on the 17 is better out of the box, easier to set up.

buy a yz and forgo hitting the inside line every corner, but not have to fork out 1000s for forks.

In other words. Don't buy a bike you can ride anywhere on the track, just get one that can only ride the water truck lines.

Too late now, the ‘18’s on its way home. Picked it up tonight. Looking forward to getting it dialed in.

Freaking awesome Ted on the new ride... Tim hook ya up ?
-All you need is Scott to hook you up on dialing in the suspension,,, then I can try it. I see new white backgrounds in your future.

Congrats

Your bike ruined me. Kept that old Suzuki 4-stroke flame alive for me through the years. Appropriate I’ll be breaking it in on the same track I rode your bike. Armen took care of me, just like his old man did back in the day.

I've put about 45hrs on the bike now. I love the suspension. The vortex ignition and yoshimura pipe really woke the engine up. I've had all my friends ride it, and they are always surprised by the power. Nothing crazy, but very strong.
I broke my wrist pretty good last September, and I haven't ridden since then. I'm going to finish of that build thread in the next week or two, with all the parts I have now collected.
With a 3000€ saving you could easily get the 17 setup well for you and still have money for beer!

So, you're saying a '17 is $3,500 American cheaper? I can see why that's a tough decision. I didn't even price a '17, didn't want one. It's all about choices and ultimately it's the guy in the mirror the you need to please. Hope we don't confuse you too much! Cool

if the 17 is that much cheaper you can use the difference to buy some springs forks and still have cash in your pocket. outside of the plastic and suspension bits nothing major was changed. which isnt a bad thing as the chassis is really good. they just need to update the engine and lose some major weight and add an e-start ala like ever other bike will have in 2019.

You are correct. You'd need to buy a KTM to go faster. Interesting as the only bike which will make you faster is not on your list....

The 2018 is a much better bike in my opinion. Whether the 17 is a better deal is up to you. I will say 2 or 3 years from now you will be glad you got the 2018 if you do.

thanks for all the opinions, super hard to choose cant make my mind up. maby i just wait for some time and ride my current old bike which i'm really happy with actually but i really wants something new.
