2017 CRF450 clutch fade issue?

I have 2 friends with 2017 CRF450s (both Vet A MXers and neither one computer savvy so I figured I would ask for them) and both of them are getting such bad clutch face during a 6 lap moto that the clutch is rendered useless, the lever is nothing but free play. Then after the clutch cools off, it's back to normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

I know how to fix this...less clutch usage, it's not a two-stroke. Laughing

I'm being serious but I also can't relate as every year riders complain about clutch fade on different 450s, while all of mine last a minimum of 30 hours. But I shift a lot...

I would be looking at what oil they are using.
There is no need to use the clutch that much on a 450.....
They could consider getting a Rekluse to fix that issue if they just can't seem to lay off the clutch.

I get a ton of clutch fade on mine as well. I'm big on riding a tall gear so I use the clutch often. Looking into a Hinson or something.

Neither one of them are clutch abusers and both have been riding 450s for years with no issue. They both run standard 10-40. One of them added 150cc's of extra oil and he said it helped slightly but still an issue. They are both going to try Motul synthetic oil with an extra 150cc's this weekend.

Mxa has some info. It seems like Honda only use 7 plates and one of them is smaller on surface area because of the judder spring.

I went to a 50 sprocket on the rear. I use rotella t6 synthetic (blue bottle). No fade last sunday on a 15 lap moto. Also in the standard map.

I run motul 300V. 100 ml extra. Get about 40 hours out of the stock clutch. Mine doesn't fade hardly at all and I use it a bit more than I should. That is probably rider error. 6 laps sheesh

this, I short shift and use the bikes awesome torque/midrange pulling power... ....if you/they insist on abusing the clutch then a rekluse is the way to go

Great oil! I have had the same type of results.

No need to skimp on a litre of oil. The difference per change is but a cup of good coffee. Do they drink instant also?

I might would suggest changing the fibers out with some cheaper heavier duty ones. Thats what i did on my 450 to fight late day fade on long motos.

15 hrs ride time. 25-30 minute moto's. No fade, and I grew up clutching on 2 strokes.

For sure
Or though I think the issue here abusing the clutch with cheap ass oil. Oil a cheaper alternative to try first
