So I’m working on an AF build and I’m curious what you guys think the resale value is on it. I started and quickly realized that I’m going to be dropping a bunch of money in it quickly. Ideally I’ll love riding it and keep it, but if I do end up selling it... I wonder what it’s worth? The 2017 roller has Zero hours on it. I’m going to have M worx do the frame up so it’s right. I expect I’ll have close to 7k in the bike once it’s done. Luckily a lot of the stuff I need can be pulled off my 18 crf 450. Then I’ll need an exhaust and silencer, engine, and carb.

Thoughts? I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I think it’s going to turn out badass.

Here’s a pic of one he already did as well as my 450 for reference. I think I’m going to make them look identical other than the suspension.

I’ll have to agree, “America” shouldn’t be turned into a slang word, IMO. But the graphics are very colorful.

But a definite - $1000 for the spoke skins !!

Sorry, but those belong on tricycle wheels, IMO

I think you guys are missing the point of the original post. I’m trying to decide if I’m dumping too much money into this build. Honestly I couldn’t care less if you guys like my graphics. I like em

Of course you are! But nobody else can help you decide if it's worth it or not.

I would gauge it at $7k if the motor had 0 hours as well as the chassis. Not too big of a market for AF 500s compared to other bikes, but you can start from there to see the depreciation.

If this is a personal project and you plan on riding the piss out of it, I think you should feel comfortable spending $5k on it, after all it said and done. More if you put lots of goodies on.

If you're not mixing gas, you're not haulin ass.

Resale will most likely be low. The used bike market is terrible because everyone is financing new bikes. Also, not many people are interested in a bike that the frame has been hacked and rigged up to fit a motor that the chassis was not intended for.

I agree with this. ^^ A buyer will have to be a really enthused 2 stroke guy, and into custom builds. If you have 7K in it I would say ride the shit out of it until you have at least 7K worth of fun. Then decide to keep it or not. Me personally ? I think it's going to be badass and fun as shit, but hard to sell. Just my $.02

This! I dig the graphics. Something different for sure.

OP- Are you going to be blowing way too much money? Of course. No doubt about it. But would it be worth it? That's totally up to you and how you feel. Would it be cool? Definitely! I wouldn't do it though, but that's because I don't have that kind of money laying around

Probably hard to find someone that is willing to pay top dollar for that bike. Especially since they can head to their nearest dealer and pick up a 250SX or a TC250 that is waaaaay faster

I saw a guy post an older one for $5000. After like a month or 2 of it not selling he docked the price to $3500 and i havent seen it since. Either sold or he realized hes not getting much for it. $4000 or $4500 would be my guess for value.

Thanks for the genuine feedback guys. That's kind of what I was thinking. It's something I personally want. I don't mind losing a bit of money if and when I get rid of it as long as I enjoy having it in the meantime. It's amazing to me that the service Honda ones are so expensive new. That's why I was asking. Seems like asking prices vary widely on these. It will be cool to have a bike that's easy to throw around again though. I've been missing two strokes lately.

I did find an engine, so depending on shipping back and forth on the frame, I'm actually in just under 6K for the entire build.

I built a 2014 CR250AF in 2014. At that time not much information were available on how to do it on that frame generation. I started with a brand new CRF250R and sold the motor, bought a complete 2001 CR250 and sold the frame with everything on it (I add bidding war on the phone craze for a 13 years old frame... ). Anyway at the end the bike cost me the price of a brand new 450 but I did most of the fabrication myself (excep the welding). I sold the bike for 1000$ cheaper than a comparable 450.

Worth it... damn yess it was fun to build and to ride and you have soooooooo much attraction at the track.

Is it a investment.... not at all like all dirt bike.

I almost spoke with my wallet on a rolling 2017 rolling frame... Knowing what I know now it will be easier to build and faster. But again at the end I prefer to ride my 450 as it is easier to ride.

Thanks man!

Yeah, I am keeping my 450 for sure, but I would love to have a bike to play on and maybe do second motor on or something. It would also be nice to have a modern 2 stroke for fmx and then just ride the 450 at the track.

I'm also thinking it will be great to have a backup parts bike. Everything but the engine and the mainframe will fit the 450 should I have an issue. I can bolt it on and not be down in the meantime.

lol keep on dreaming, see those every saturday on the track and they are not faster then a cr250 05-07. Even a 450 can't keep up when i'm exiting the corner. Only i can do it three corners with my health right now lol and they are young can keep the trottle wide open for 25 minutes.

+1 for keeping the silver rims, now just add some red hubs and it'll be even sweeter.
