How do you figure? Doesn't that "F" on the shroud stand for 2 stroke? Silly
KTM's design squad cannot receive enough praise. they're doing what the Japanese teams should have been doing around 2005. it's shameful how slow innovations have come over the last 10 years. they're all fired.

Usually manfs start working on new prototypes years before they are released. "Keefer" may have seen or heard about a YZ prototype... then again the YZM500 was an actual race bike that never made to production. So there is tinkering around with a new bike (cheap) and actually retooling the factory for a run (not cheap).

My money is on the updated YZ plastics - same frame and engine.

Not to be me negative 2 stroke here (I own a 2 stroke myself), but do any of the pros even have a desire to ride a 2 stroke anymore? I have no idea if they do or if they don't. It just seems like they have grown so accustomed to the way that you ride a 4 stroke that I wonder if they would even ride one if it came out? I know the 125 would be great (and almost a must) for the jump from super mini to 250F. I'm just curious if we would actually see them raced again in "the show" if they were built. And now I'm sure I will get to learn more than I ever wanted to know about equal displacement rules and why either side of the argument is the devil

^^^ I see no reason why anyone would want to race a 2-stroke in Pro MX again unless it becomes an advantage, which I don't see happening unless there is a drastic rule change.

I heard from someone at Yamaha that they are stopping 2 strokes so I would be very surprised to see this happening.

Ride or race?

Will Hahn was just featured riding a CR 125 with his brother on Moto 5.

I'm sure most know what's more fun to ride. Just as they know what is the better race machine under the current rules.

That's a good point. My question lies more towards the racing aspect. By the way, seeing guys like Hahn, jimmy D, barcia, old stewy vids, herlings and even top super mini guys absolutely open up a 2 stroke is one of the best sounds in the world.

It's not about pro's racing them, it's all the people who ride/race locally. The schoolboy/college boy even B class has plenay of 2strokes, those are the people who buy bikes. I would do 125's for my son after SMinis, just sounds logical.

I agree. I thought I was clear that I was talking strictly about pros racing them. And I stated that the 125 was perfect coming from superminis

Edit: I just read my response and it kinda came off like I was being a dick. Not my intention.

Real media outlets are saying the '15 YZ250 is getting mildly changed and it currently has an information embargo on it. We're not talking about a radical redesign according to the guys who have seen it, mostly plastic.

I have officially given up on Yamaha. I have rode yamahas since I was 5 years old. I sold my 2013 yz250 two days ago with every intent to purchase the rumored new designed yz two strokes. Yamahas get uglier and uglier every year. Not to mention they can't even upgrade to front horrible front brake. Ktm will be getting my business.

HOWEVER, I cannot find this on their website and I cannot see them putting GYTR stickers on a production bike so right now I call pre-pro or one-off mock up.

as compared to a cutting edge KTM 125 or 150?

You decide.

KTM is significantly ahead of Yamaha in Ergos, Suspension and Horsepower. Putting new side panels and a new fender on won't help those things.

I owned a 144sx. And have ridden a 150sx.

I'd take a YZ125 over them both. My 144sx went through 7 top ends in under a year.

Just took a long look through the EU site, and it looks like just new plastic. No EFI, direct injection, new suspension, or anything else.

Exactly

The suspension is the best in the world and the 125 will smoke a 150, 20lbs heavier makes a huge difference on a tiddler bike.

Cutting edge, what is cutting edge, you mean the price tag. An 8 yr old design YZ 125 and 250 will run circles around the KTM pigs at half the price.

WE have a KTM dealership that would sponsor us with bikes at cost and after riding both, we bought Yamahas. The handling, cornering and suspension on the KTMs are below sub par and would take massive money to get them to a stock Yamaha.

You sheeple can keep your cutting edge that magazines keep telling you you need to have.
