Hello I am curious how many hours can be put on the new bike before its time for a bottom end rebuild. Also how many for a new piston. Mine currently has about 38 hrs. But I change the oil filter and air filter every 3 hrs. She still runs strong. And it's not ever on the rev limiter

I sold my 08 to my friend at 45 hours. He put at least 50 hours on it before selling it. The engine had never been opened and the valves never moved. If you take care of the engine, I don't see why you couldn't get at least 125 hours out of it before doing the top end.

I had a 12 RMZ 450, I put a new piston in her at 70 hours and everything looked perfect. That was with oil changed every 5 hours and filter every 10. I had three sand dune trips and the rest was all moto. When I finally sold it it had 130 hours on it, never gave me a single problem. I'm still gonna do a piston on my 15 at 70 hours again just to be safe. But you could prob go 100+ easy.

2009, oil every 2-3 hours and filter every other oil change. New piston at 50 hours but the old one came out like new.

It was so still running strong when I sold it at 100 hours. Valves never moved.

I've had a buddy put over 600 hours on a stock low end. 2009 I believe crf450. He is an ex pro and races A class too. It's all on Maintenance like everyone else says.

I had bad luck with crf450 bottom ends. Both were 09's and both blew at around 120 hours. But both had issues with gas diluting the oil.

I replaced the piston in my 13 rmz450 at 64 hours and everything looked great. Checked valves at 100 hours and they are still in spec. Going to do another piston at 120 hours and see how things are holding up.

I race cross country and trail ride so I'm not on the Rev limiter often.

I'm the second owner of a 2011 RMZ450, the bike has done over 70 hard hours, sounds & runs sweet, I just checked the shims; perfect. I'm gunna thrash it for another 70 hours.

If you never have to replace clutches and front and rear rotors then you could easily get 200 hours from a top and bottom end, i have seen many 08+ zooks do this with slower guys. If you burn through clutches, pads and rotors then you could do 80+ then just a top end and cam chain etc. Some of the guns here do clutch, chain and pads rotors etc every round, im guessing 20hours tops before a full tear down

The big rod end bearing on the crank went out of my 14 at around 60 hours. I wouldn't go over 75 without at least pulling it apart and check everything out.

Quit bringing logic and numbers into the argument here. Four strokes are ruining the sport and two strokes are the shit. Shut your mouth.

Ya guys, don't forget you have to buy oil for your fuel on a 2-stroke, better get that credit card out Smile

I agree with others on the comments of maintenance, as long as it isn't beat into the ground I wouldn't bother looking in the motor before 50 hours.

My bad, lol.

After only 1 year my 2010 YZ250 (twostroke) smashed a piston and punched it out through the crankcase, that weren't cheap. My twostroke chamber gets crushed adding more cost to riding it. Until my RMZ goes bang, I am happy with its reliability :-)

I have well over 300 hours on my 07 crf450 transmission. It's the 09-12s that seem to have the issues. My 10 crf misses 2 to 3 when powershifting.

Here's what I would do. I would go by what the service/owners manual says or something close to it. If I don't want to do the maintenance, I would not buy a RACE bike. I'd buy an CRF230 trail bike instead.

People saying 200.....300 hours. These are the "why is there metallic bits in my oil, but it runs fine?" people.
