I agree, Fugly.

The shrouds look like the side of the space shuttle all fat and bulky - Like, OMG gag me with a spoon

IMO - Why can't Yamaha just make a regular bike? I realize Yamaha has to be Yamaha, meaning that they are always trying something crazy. But why reinvent the wheel? Was the 09 YZ that bad? So the front end pushed a little, but at least it was a viable weapon with a little tweaking. The present YZ could possibly be made into one, but cut the BS and improve the power, handling, and weight instead of touting miracle groundbreaking power, handling, and whatever.

They will probably come out with just BNG.
Have your even rode a new YZ450? I guarantee you that bike would be just the same to you as everyother bike out there. The hate on this bike in this message board is retarded. The power handling and weight of the bike is fine.

I had a 10 yz and it had excellent build quality, decent power, good suspension and felt much lighter then it is, but the front end is not good on the entry into corners or flat corners. the lack of bite out of the front wheel was very evident once you ride another bike on the same track. Is it competitive at the local level....for me yes, would I rather ride another bike....also yes

I understand what you are getting at but this is the kind of stuff that progresses our sport. Yamaha should be commended for thinking outside the box. Who didn't go a little crazy when those first pics of the backwards engine surfaced in 09? I personally can't wait to see what they did for '13.

With the amount of money they spent in developing the backwards engine, I bet the new model while use the same engine.

Too many people keep saying that bike need some frame development and reduce the bike size.

Personally, I will be happy for Yamaha if they throw a new model with the same size and not a version of a WR, which could be a defeat in the market sales and the honor for them.

Don't think so. The Yamaha team hasnt had factory support for quite a few years now. So no prototype bikes used. Will be using 2013 based bikes.

Specifically, in 2008, the Jubileo Racing closed its doors. In 2009 YSP Racing with NRT (Akira Narita) and Yamaha Japan, wanted to introduce the new 2010 model, Yamaha USA, but refused because he wanted to sell the 2009 models in stock.

You may get the prototype in 2013?¿

I like the design, but the graphics don't look like they fit right.

Is it me or is that countershaft sprocket tiny?
12/6/2012 11:41am
4 t yam are all like that. The primary ratio is tall so they use a 13 t countershaft. This means you can only go down to a 12 t, which is smallish since less than 6 teeth are engaged. I tried to talk to a yamaha rep at one of the demo rides about this. you can guess how far that went.

I heard they were eliminating forks and shocks all together. Prototype was code named "Shocker."

A matter of taste has no truth, but seems the Honda design has a tendency to win more people over than Yamaha's attempt. Personally I have to agree with some here, the shrouds are absurd, I also feel the tank reminds me of a hunch back whale. Doesn't matter if the bike is balanced, low centered, with the chunk of whatever, it looks like it just wants to tip over, and needs two Hulk Hogans' (in his prime) to pick it back up. The looks of the engine just goes against what the eye wants to see, WTF? Did the rider crash into something and hit the cylincer? Plastics seems to be put there at random. Again, a matter of taste, but who bitched about the CRF 09-12 design? That bike looks fast on the floor, new KTM also seems to win a majority over.

Pretty strange since Yamaha spits out a high range of good looking scooters. I honestly think the YZ125/YZ250 are far better looking despite being a decade old.

I hope they figure things out, or whatever really. I have their smoker from 2006, happy with that, so they need some pretty hard work to make my wallet to talk again.

According to one of the MX magazines concerning the 2012 450's, the Yamaha is the second lightest (Honda was lightest) and at some point during the rpm curve ( low to mid-range if I remember correctly) made more hp than the Kaw and KTM. Yeah the bike has a little " light" feel when first entering corners but what bike doesn't have some different traits compared to the others? Some bikes corner better and some make more hp. Apparently the engine relocation kit helps or eliminates this feeling. Yamaha leads the way in durability. MXA just wrote what seems to make sense to me is that "Yamaha is paying the price for JS7's problems." Seems like all the new bikes are pretty darn solid to me. Anyway...

You can expect the 2014 YZ450 to be announced in June, which is when they always announce their new MX models.
