Opinions please. I can get a new left over 2012 for $6,000 OTD or a 14 for $7500 OTD. Is the 14 really worth $1500 more? Btw I am a local vet rider in the plus 30 class. Weigh 155 lbs in street clothes. I have had 250's, 450's and recently a 2013 yz250 smoker.

Don't forget about the 14 RMZ 450. A better bike and only $5,800.

Thanks for the input. Resale value is what's steering me away from suzuki. I know all the bikes are good. Everything I read says the new honda handles and corners much better. But for an average weekend rider. How much better is it?

Really depends on how long you keep it, after a few years, really wont matter. all bikea are good if you take good care of them. , rmz best handling bike, kawy best power, ktm great parts, honda, yamha durable good resale. imo if i m gonna ride a stock bike, rmz, kawy beat 450 out there, but none od my bikes are stock. , if ur gonna buy a 14, wait for the 15, heard its quite a bit better. crf s are lighter though, good quality. send me a text i ll send pics. cant figure out how to post. pic lol. 301-801-1987 billy

Just a quick little opinion of mine here.

I liked the 12' Honda better than I did the 13'. I didn't mind the 11' either....good bike. The 13' just didn't feel right to me......and I friggin' hated the 09' and 10' !!

Another plus 1 on the Suzuki......great bike for sure! Even though I love my Kawi the best! Love that thing more than any other bike I've ever ridden or owned!

Get the ´14, it's awesome. Put on an exhaust, powerflow kit, hinson clutch and get the suspension done, and you will have an awesome bike

Yes the 14 is worth it! And it will hold its value way better too. You'll love it,

Buy the '14 and stick another $2k+ into it? Does that makes sense to you if he is debating on getting a 12 or 14 over $1.5k difference?

Thanks for the help. There are a lot of good ideas and opinions. It's something about the MC replica that makes me love the 13 and up.

As stated above, I also don't want a bike I MUST spend 2k on to make good.

You don't have to spend 2K, you can just ride it as it is. Still good enough for almost everyone. Its nice to have the bling, but not everyone needs it

12 is supposedly a much better bike, and that's just a custom graphics kit, you could apply it to a CR80 if you wanted to.

The Honda's need too much $ to make right. I'd buy Kaw then Zook maybe even the new Yammie if I wanted new. That being said I went back to an 09 Yamaha after having 11 Honda with all the stuff on it and I'm faster on almost stock 09 yz450 go figure

Imo, the kawy, rmz are the best bikes stock, add some $$ and they are all good bikes, at the regular wekend rider, stock their great bikes, but none of my friends ride stock bikes.pick a color. , 1 bike wont turn a c rider into a pro. that being said, i have a 12 crf 450, loaded, 12 kawy loaded, and a 13 rmz , all great bikes, honda us the lightest .any one looking for a mint used bike , lemme know,i m on the east coast. probably get a 15 in sept.

That's too much for a '12 in my opinion. I agree with RbR.

A lot of votes for the Kawi. Has quality improved on those in the last few years? I purchased a new 2011 250f and after a year was about worn out. All the chain guides and rollers, clutch and plastics went pretty quick.

No I don't think that's fair. Maybe issues at factory level who knows? But the handling and feel of the new geometry and mass centralisation are years ahead of the 12 for average riders

I have a '12 with a Tokyo mods/vortex x10 ecu, fmf pipe, 22mm triple clamps, race tech suspension, and a buddy has a '14 that is stock. My bike will eat his for lunch in the motor dept. but I turn faster laps on his bike. go figure. I too am counting the days until the '15's hit the floor. But on the other hand $6k OTD for a brand new 450 is a pretty good deal, but you will have to put some $ into it.

Rode a stock crf 450, 2014 today at a demo day, decent bike , but my 12 with 13 head, full yosh, twin air kit and renegade fuel, way stronger i also have full hinson, 14 needs set up and a few things, but imo my 12 was way better, but its set up for me. , pretty sure the 15 crf will be sick.

We'll guys I think I'm gonna go for the 14. I'm gonna try and make it to the dealer tomorrow. With my luck I will get the 14 and when the 15 comes out it will be the greatest bike ever. Reality is, I would be just as fast on any of them. Thanks!!

Honestly man...I would wait! Honda's don't go down in price until the new year bikes come out if I remember right. I would wait until the 15's hit the floor....and possibly save yourself $700.00 - $1500.00.....you never know.

I have a 12 and love it (it's for sale btw). I have ridden a 14 and it's not better in my mind. Not enough better for me to want to buy one anyway. I think the air forks took something away from the feel of the bike. Being a Honda guy my advice would be get the 12 or a 15. Buy the 14 and you'll regret it I think. The additional price of the 14 isn't worth it in my opinion. Now a 15 with the new forks. That should be worth it's weight in gold

For my 12 I did the following:

Barnett clutch basket
Jutter spring removal
G2 quick turn throttle
Re-valved suspension

The thing is a freight train and smooth as glass!

Not a gnarly snappy power but smooth, forgiving, and confidence inspiring while still being more power than the average guy can use. It's a vet guys dream! The trick was the quick turn throttle. Use that bad boy like a on/off switch and roll.

Are you still using the stock exhaust and mapping on your 12? When I rode my 12 stock I thought I had accidentally purchased a CRF230L.
