Best bang for your buck that you can get.

More motor than you need, great handling, very tunable, hydro clutch.

But great bike. Vibe like crazy but have tunable engines. Set the squish, run high quality fuel, play with the power valve. I wasn’t ecstatic about the flex of the frame while rowing through rollers around a corner, but we have sand tracks here so it was amplified. I’m sure it would have been a welcomed cushion on a harder pack track.

Suspension wise: I had FC rework the forks and they were much better, if not a bit harsh. They installed the bladder in the shock to mimic the Japanese bikes, which helped a shit ton. The piston would bind in the WP shock and the bladder floats. It kept the tire engaged at all times through small chop.

I had a 2013 250 XC and loved it. It vibrated pretty bad, even compared to the 2009 250XC that it replaced, which I never understood. Both of those bikes got sold to friends, so I still ride them from time to time.

I would definitely recommend a 20 mm offset triple clamp on the big axle bikes, to mimic the modern 22mm/small axle setup. That was a HUGE improvement on my 2013 after spending almost a year on it not being comfortable with the front end. With that change, it feels very similar to a 'modern' KTM front end.

Like everyone else is saying, the CC forks were really good once set up. I have actually lengthened the ones that were on that bike, swapped lugs, and still run them on my 2019 300 XC. They're fantastic!

Vibration stopped me from buying one after a demo day.

I did buy a 14 150 SX and vibration on it was significantly improved with a 16+ top triple clamp. Maybe the same applies to the 250 SX.

I have a '13 I bought in 2017 with 5hrs on it.

So far it has been one of the best bikes I've owned. Noticed the vibes at first, but got used to it.

Great engine.

To be honest I think the 12-16 SX 250s are some of the coolest bikes ever made. I currently have a 2020 SX 450 as my moto racebike, but really missed the older two strokes, so I am building up a 2016 TC 300 for some beach and sand racing. Those engines are so tunable and more or less bulletproof and I don't care about the vibrations at all.
I had a 2018 SX 250 as well, and I spent a lot of time and money trying to make it run as good as the older generation, but was just never entirely satisfied with it.

They were incredible motors. Vibrated a lot but rocket ships. I prefer them 10/10 times compared to my counterbalanced SX.

12-16 generation engine is possible one of the strongest and most reliable 250 two stroke engines ever made. I have almost 200 hours on mine with original bottom end and still going strong. Getting factory edition triple clamps with 20mm offset and 9oz flywheel weight were best modification to make it more rideable. The engine is so strong that you seldom need to shift gears.

To minimize vibration I recommend to use shim washers in engine mounting points and swing to remove any gaps between the frame before tightening bolts
