Can anyone confirm the FIM are banning the use of tear off's in 2010? If so , does the AMA follow suit?

I think Flarider predicted this a while back (Maybe not FIM specific) but that this ban was coming. Maybe he can shed some light.

There was an April Fools joke done on RacerX about it, and I said it is going to happen anyway. It's an environmental mess and gives tree huggers more ammo. No one cleans up the tear offs and they're not reused or recycled. It just garbage getting strewn about and left behind.

How many tearoffs would equal one tshirt bag? I see those fucking things stuck to cactus all over the prairie.

So if it's muddy you are forced to either buy roll offs or ride blind?

If there was a sport or activity that necessitated its participants to toss numerous plastic bags as they participate, with no one to clean it up, just leaving them there, how long do you think that would go on?

I am far from an environmentalist, but as someone who cares about the sport, I see the problems and potential attack points real environmentalists can take.

Leaving trash and thin plastic sheets all over hell and high water is going to catch up with us eventually, and then we lose more riding areas and people will be bitching and whining when we could've averted it all along.

Just what I was thinking . They make clear plastic cups out of corn. Wonder if you could make tear offs out of the same stuff.

Tear offs no good, Monster bags, Cans and all the other energy drink trash is okay because they pay.

Sounds to me like the problem could be solved , just pick the tear offs up like you would any other event trash.

no doubt. I don't think it would be that difficult to make a decent bio-degradable tear off.

I agree with this 100 percent, if we want our sport to grow, it becomes more mainstream and things like this that could slide under the table in the past, just won't be tolerated anymore, motocross has long been a "minority" of sorts whether we like to admit that to ourselves or not, it is true, but with growth comes change and change is necessary for progression. Yes I do prefer tear offs but if the entire field runs roll offs then noone is at a disadvantage and therefore I don't see this "ban" as something for us to worry about.
