Ours has been pretty much trouble free with the exception of sucking a little sand from the air filter frame not being properly seated once. The air filter is fucky and only fits one way and one way only. Make sure it is in correctly. Better yet go ahead and get the Twin Air aluminum frame filter setup.

Second thing, check the length of the bolts holding the lower bar mounts to the upper triple. I think the previous owner of ours may have gone to a taller bar mount (offered by KTM I believe, been a long time ago) and not used a longer bolt. I ate shit on it one day and basically ripped the bars off. Upon closer inspection the bolts were only about three threads deep in the triples.

I say buy it if the price is right. Like Newmann said the air filter is a little tricky to set in place so you always have to make sure it sits properly. Mine was trouble free and I put alot of hours on it. I'm not sure on the amount of hours but I rode 3-4 times a week. Suspension was soft but nothing your suspension guy can't fix.

Unfortunately for me it's the last bike I got to enjoy but absolutely loved it. I still have a brand new Pro Circuit works pipe and R-304 shorty silencer for it that I never got to bolt on stashed somewhere.

I think these had a purpose built motor, meaning it wasn’t just a big bore 125 (unlike today’s 150).

I bought my first 144 SX back in 2008, it was a Test bike from KTM with 160 Hours on in .
Rode this bike for 3 Years and another 200 Hours without any Single Problem .
The old 144 Engine with different Bore/Stroke was very good but the Chassis and Suspension not
compared to the 16+ Models
