The last time I rode which was in 2008 I jumped on it 07YZ 450 and an 07 YZ 250 Which happened to be my first time ever on a four stroke. Before that I would just race a bone stock 125 so those things felt like Tomac’s factory bikes lol They were TANKS however it was amazing how effortless it was to go fast. From what I remember, they both felt similar just with the 450 having more power (I’m no pro but I do all the jumps and jam around)

My question is, now that it’s 2019 im looking to jump back in, are the differences between the 2007‘s and the 2019‘s Very significant being 12 years apart? If I rode that 07 again then got on a ‘19 would I most likely feel like the 07 is a pile of crap?
Or has there really not been that much significant improvement to where an intermediate rider like myself wouldn’t really tell the difference between an 07 and a new one?

'06-'09 is the last decent generation of YZF I'd consider riding, lol. Bring on the downvotes....

I've got an 09 YZ 250f, well set-up and reliable as the day is long. I can't justify buying a newer high dollar four stroke for the type of rider I am these days.

Don't believe the hype, just get the best bike you can afford. A good local dealership is the great asset.

Heck yeah you'll like that bike. Both of those bikes ride great and I don't think you'll be at too much of a disadvantage over a new bike (depending on your skill level of course).

Man I bought a left over '16 YZ450 for $6500 last year and absolutely love this bike and especially the suspension. If you're just jumping back in and stressed about what to buy go and look at a left over bike like an RMZ. I don't think you'd go wrong with any of the new bikes as far as comparing it to an 07 YZ.

I was in a very similar boat as you last year I hadn't rode since 2006. I never like the 450s I had an 06 Yz450 that I never got comfortable with. Carbureted 450s had such terrible power delivery and the thing handled like a wheelbarrow. Flash forward to 2018 I ended up trying a new 450 and bought one immediately. The difference is NIGHT and DAY from an older 450. The 2018 yz450 doesn't feel like a tank the power is so smooth it cuts like a knife compared to older models suspension is unreal. I couldn't believe the difference. Made me a 450 guy

I had an 06 yz250f I bought in 09 and rode and got used to. In 12 I started shopping around and not knowing if i wanted a 250f or 450 and found a year old kx250f (which was fuel injected) for 2500 so I jumped on it even though I'm normally a blue boy haha.. That bike would SMOKE my carbureted 06 yz. I was happy with my choice to stay with the 250 knowing how much quicker the fuel injected motor got the power down. But that is just an experience I had with old vs new. I feel like the newer ones would be even quicker than the 11 I had.
