wsc96 as mentioned above I've ridden an 06 with .025" milled off the base & imho it's not the route to go on the case reed engine for mods.. When these bikes 1st came out I did some testing with a local tuner with different pipe combos & cyl mods.. I didn't like the results till I used PC & was more than pleased with the mods for only $300 in 04.
I'm also running a JD ign. that PC programmed with their configured map to compliment the engine mods. The exhaust is a full Doma pipe / silencer combo that proved to be as good as it gets on a 2t 250 engine in my experience.

I've owned many 02-07 CR250r's with the exception of the 04 model & feel I'm somewhat well versed on these bikes.

Yeah, It's pretty cool that the engine will pull the 13/48 gearing with no problems. With a 13/50 combo it can be a handful when I haven't ridden it in a while. It takes some time to adjust after riding the 450.

Wasn’t questioning your knowledge and experience. The question was meant to understand if PC/Varner changed their approach with the 05 onward engine.

Ok. My bad as I misread your post. From my understanding PC seems to have the same approach & don't know about Varner. He seems to have changed the amount of material he mills off the base from .030" to .010" from what I've seen. If your thinking of having either tuner due the work on the engine I'd suggest getting in contact with them about any inquiries. You can't go wrong with either tuner as both are reputable.

I believe that Varner does similar work to both 02-04 & 05-07 cylinders when it comes to port height. I have his cylinder on my 03 and I would recommend his work to anyone. We spoke for quite a while regarding the cr250's and he mentioned that lowering the ports significantly was a mistake. Mine was only lowered about .010". Port work was a thing of beauty.

I previously had a cylinder done by Gore and was never happy with the performance even after sending it back 3 times for changes. He lowered mine about .030 on his final attempt. It now sits in the corner of my garage.

All good. I appreciate your input. I'm in no rush to do anything just yet and would likely do something myself or more local (in Aus) when I do.

Big fan of the late Honda 2 strokes here.
