I'm in the minority & prefer the mikuni tmx as well due to the extra power it provides in the mid-top vs. the Keihin PWK. The Keihin will provide better off idle throttle response in comparison so it's a bit of a trade off.

I talked to Chad in June about doing the mods to the Mikuni, but he was super busy with prepping bikes for LL's. He asked me to call him at the end of summer when things slowed down. Unfortunately I've been unable to get a hold of him. Thnxz..

Yep. The stock 03 engine has good low-mid & top once you sort out the jetting.
I raced it stock with a VF2, 50T rear sprocket, heavier springs & was able to podium on it. With engine mods it's on a whole different level.

200 CR250R, only bike I've ridden in my adult life other than one 2005 afternoon on a 2005 YZ450F.

Cleaned it up a bit in 2015.

Found this one for $800, for my buddy (no title unfortunately) it's pretty clean but jetting is WAY off haha here's the first day riding it...

If your planning on keeping the Mikuni TMX I'd highly recommend experimenting with an S7 or S8 nozzle. The stock S9 is way to rich from the factory. It helps clean up the 1/8 thru the 3/4 throttle range & also helps liven up the low end throttle response. Not sure what the Honda techs were thinking coming up with the fat jetting specs that came as oem. That's one of the main reasons the low end feels sluggish.
