Ok I have a good friend who has been a Mechanic/Tech his whole career (A&P, RV, Auto, Motorcycle etc) and currently owns his own Mobile RV biz and does quite well at it.. He's one of those Technicians who cuts no corners and always does things top notch.

Anyway the bike has sat in his storage shed for a number of yrs as he has other bikes he rides. He now wants to upgrade to a current DualSport Husky 450 and we know how much those baby's cost. As much as he would like to hang onto his immaculate 01 CR500 (last yr of production) I think I have him talked into finally letting her go so he can justify getting the Husky.

I don't have a current picture but last time I saw the bike was just after he made it street legal with lights, blinkers, horn and a kickstand. I'm pretty sure it has a FMF pipe and silencer but is mostly bone stock with low hours. He did not ride it much after that as he ended up scoring a Sweet Honda 600XRL from one of his customers.

So just wanted to put it out there to see what she might be worth before he makes the next step.

Thanks

Does it have Super moto wheels? to me that could up the value. I know back in the day I had flat track wheels and tires on mine. Super fun on the street.CoolCool You can sure hurt alot of crotch rocket riders feelings in a hurry. Here in Kansas I'd say around 2500 but everything is worth more where your at.EvilEvil

$5,000 is the first number that comes to mind, possibly more. Any "immaculate" CR500 is going to be north of $3500-4000... if it's tagged / street legal ready, $5000+ is what I'd expect to see it listed at.

If it's sat this long, I assume it's not currently tagged??? Does he have the title and all necessary paper work for you to just take ownership and get it registered with the state?? Make sure there's no hoops to jump through on that end..

No pics so it's difficult to tell but I was thinking around $3200.

Thanks guys.

Ok I dug into my archives and this is from a few years ago when I visited him up North and we went on a trail ride. I believe this is one of his last rides on her before he got the XR.

Don might have a better picture, I did this on a whim without letting him know. Cheerful

Oh yes and he has the title and registration, the tags are probably not current because he hasn't ridden it in a few years

I bought a plated 97 kx500 with motard wheels, 320 front disc, lights ect for 3200 last year. The original build was a bit hokey but after a few hours of time it was all good to go.

Glad to see I'm not the only person who compares everything I buy to the amount of mcdoubles I could have bought with that same money.

I'd say go for it.
I mean, how cool would it be to lay on the horn when you were getting ready to make a pass.

3 to 4K.

Here's the deal...street legal and plated in Arizona does not mean it'll be plated anywhere else. I could get a pink slip and plates for my ballsack in Arizona.

California is one of the stricter states regarding licensing.
They will be the first state in the nation where everybody will be required to drive electric cars.

I do recall during the USGP they had at Glen Helen a few years back a guy rolled up on a street-legal CR500 and rode around the facility in the Hills.

Not sure the laws have changed much since then but he had a California plate on the bike.

One option would be to keep the Arizona plate on it, if the new owner knew someone in AZ and he could use their address.

Having a tag from any state will increase your chances of being granted one in your chosen state. But it's always a twisted path to navigate and can come down to the mood of the clerk on a given day. Seems like an good buy in that 4k range.
