Had a 04 cr 250 did the mods digger posted. Plus 13 Oz. Flywheel weight and hinson basket oem plates.

18 wheel and suspension set up for enduro.

Sold it to get a yz 250x stock.

Cr stronger engine, better Cornering, better bottoming resistance.

Yz 250 x lugs better, more Stable, plusher, sweet kickstand.

Off-road? Go Blu.

Any room in the budget to just buy a YZ250X and let Yamaha do the off-road conversion work for you?
For sure, yellow smokers cant get anything done in the woods..... Wink

Wow. Look at that stock RM250 in the picture. You are comparing apples to Bartlett Pears. Any KX, YZ, RM or CR used in the woods is going to get some mods that a YZ250X already comes with.

Thanks for all the input everyone - I'll buy a Yamaha when I find what I'm looking for.

And no, I don't want to buy a 250X. To be honest, and Yamaha fans will probably flame me for this, but if I'm spending anywhere near what a 250X would cost, I'll buy a 17 or newer KTM so I can have that incredible counterbalanced motor.

I also just want a project I can grab for 3k, strip it to the frame and make something cool. I love the clean look of RV's 125 (except I'll build black wheels).
