1997 PJ1 AX from Sacremento

While looking back and trying to find some cool old AX coverage when 2 strokes ruled-
I found a random clip of home footage from this AX race, with rare footage of Mike Jones on the number 12 Kawasaki. The camera man says "That bike sounds fucking badass" in reference to Jonesy's KX.

The Texas rounds in Ft Worth was epic. 2 nights racing 2 classes and a dash for cash. Mike Kidd was a genius and boo koo was sport on. Only when the AMA got involved did the series suffer.

Cool stuff. Thanks for the link (It's "Sacramento" as far as spelling).
Ping raced AX in '97? He's wearing red gear at the beginning.

I still have my bookoo trophy from their amateur day. It was huge.

I’m having flashbacks of seeing that 01 Suzuki on Craigslist last year. The numbers were still on it, but it was a basket case. Thanks for uploading, that was awesome to watch.

I remember sdmf851 got 3rd, Wheeler 2nd in a 250 main, couldn't tell you who won and if Kidd had bought Holley out by then or they had 2 Sac AX's. Remember Cliff Adoptante, Jones and few others doing halftime freestyle contest Jones won. Dude was brute. Remember Dean turning Pro back around '84 or '85 and still was one of the top guys locally around the end of the '90s. #351 is Jason Partridge waiting to take off partway into the vid. #411 think is Travis Hodges next to #4. Thanks for the link my friend Greg!

I love this older stuff. Does anyone happen to remember the one from 1990 or 1991 at Arco Arena in Sacramento? I think it was called something like the, "Suzuki $50,000 Indoor Supercross". I've never been able to find anything on it.

Think it was in '91. Tyson Vohland was on a RM 250 and 125. He didn't look good on the RMs like he had in the KX yrs. The newspaper I worked at had a box we could watch from. All I remember from that race.

Arco $50k, it was the Australian AX promoters and a bunch of the Aussie guys came but I'm not sure if it was part of their series. Pretty sure that was the first time Gordon Ward broke out the heel-clicker in the halftime contest, it was definitely the first time I ever saw something like that and it about blew my wig back...

Happy to find a couple people that remember it! I was so confused with that heel clicker, like WHAT JUST HAPPENED?? Myself and a buddy went outside to try and sneak in the pits and here comes Hannah on I think Cooper's bike. And all those Suzuki guys used to hit Riverfront before Hangtown, that was the best. Every year you just *had* to hit RF the Thursday before. Charlie Sexton would come out and run the gate and we'd practice starts with Brian Swink. Such a fun time in moto.

I recall a time in Arenacross when the top-ten guys would get end of season big ass checks from the promoter AND, get

this, be taken on a weeklong Colorado ski vacation, True.

Not sure how you could make it work in the modern four stroke world, but if someone could figure out a way to bring back AX using the old format of everyone racing two classes, two nights in a row, I can’t help but feel it would be a hit.

AX was so awesome back then.

I mean, i didn’t want barge in here and sound like a crusty old codger, but I do think a modern AX series with 125 and 250 classes like the old days would be amazzzzzing!!!!!!
