This is a look back at Suzuki's all-new RM250 for 1988. This was one of the best Suzuki machines of the eighties and won several 250 shootouts this season. While not as sexy as some of its competitors, this '88 RM was a very competitive machine.

Always liked that bike. Never rode one, but it looked like it worked well. That model year ('88), the Honda, Kawi, Yamaha, and Suzuki were completely clean sheets of design paper. Good times.

Yes, I restored both bikes from very rough condition. Always loved the 88 250 with the PC pipe.... my first brand new bike was an 87 RM250, as Blazier stated, the 87 was an ok bike...I was also a huge Hannah & Omara fan...

Awesome bike & photos... stock pipe & silencer for the 88”s are impossible to find! When I restored my 88 about 5-6 years ago, I was still able to source the Oem plastic right from Suzuki...1 year design on many parts...

What always made that '88 sexy to me was that it was totally un-sexy! The tank/seat looked like a last minute add-on to try and get another year out of that platform. But at the same time, there was something works-like about those updates too.

I raced a friend's 87 RM 250 once back in 89, it was all low end grunt and super easy to use. Big adjustment for my skinny 135 lb, 125 riding self! But I had a blast on it.

I had an '88 RM125. I thought it was so much faster than my '86, but now I realize it was probably just fresh when it was brand new. Of course, the '89 was all-new from the ground up and I was stuck with my old bike for another year (Dad only bought me a new bike every couple years.) I always liked the looks of that '88 250 as well.

I was looking to buy an RM250 and test rode one of those that was built by a local shop called Suzuki Country Racing. It was an absolute rocket.
