Alright, so my brother bought a 1985(or 1984, not sure.) CR250 from my uncle about 16 years ago, for $300. The bike was ridden maybe 3 times the first year he bought it, and has sat ever since.
Now, I have wanted to do a restoration bike for the past couple of years and my brother would sell me the bike for what he has into it ($300 +$100 once at the shop).
Would you guys buy it for $400?
Curious to know what you all think.

Little note, I didn't start watching, or getting into moto till 2004. Once I got into it, I then went back and watched as much of the 90's McGrath era I could, but I never really got into the 80's racing. I know little to nothing about the 80's.

Yes a water pump cover from a 1989 CR250 will work on a 1985 CR250.
1989 CR250 water pump cover part number 11340-KS7-831 WILL FIT the 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 And of course the 1989 CR250's!!!
YOU WILL need to also order part number 90084-KF9-900 (alternator cap cover) and part number 91303-377-000 (o ring for alternator cap) and 11342-KS7-701 (clutch cover (Honda no longer carries this part, you will need to find it on ebay or a motorcycle salvage yard) and the clutch cover o ring part number 91311-KS7-701.
The difference between the 1985/86 from the 1987 water pump cover is the 1987 water pump cover had a removable clutch cover.
The difference between the 1989 water pump cover and the 1985, 1986, 1987 water pump cover is that there is a minor difference on how you are able to access the water pump governor. The 1989 water pump cover is also available from Honda and it is made from ALUMINUM!
The 1981 CR250 water pump covers (which are made from aluminum) will fit the 1982 and 1983 CR250's.
To sum up.
If you have a 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988 Honda CR250 with a bad water pump cover, you can order directly from Honda an aluminum water pump cover from a 1989 Honda CR250.
You will also need to get a clutch cover if you have a 1985/86 CR250, which you need to find used and the alternator cap cover and ring and of course the water pump gasket (part number 11395-KS7-306).
The "orphan" water pump cover is the 1984 CR250, it apparently is a "one year only" water pump cover.

You have a great opportunity. There’s a lot of people on this forum who will obviously give you some direction and help along the way. Some parts may be tough to find but, you’ll eventually find them. When your ready, start a build thread and people will help you with answers to problems you may run into.
