Maybe I should have said "trick question trivia"

~ Wikipedia is wrong (according to a 1985 MXA I just found in the backroom)

Oh that was the year Mike Goodwin booted the AMA and they started InSport, I'll have to further investigate.

In 1984 the Supercross promoters broke away from the AMA and held there own 16-race series (sanctioned by Insport) won by Johnny O'Mara

The AMA held there own "2 race" championship series won by _________ __________
*hint not Johnny O, but his rival that year.

Jeff Ward - Jeff Ward won the 1984 Supercross Championship by two points over David Bailey, but the series was divided by a promoter/AMA feud that separated the majority of the races from the AMA points system. During the 17-race series so few races counted for points that Ward won with a total of 55 points to Bailey's 53. A year later, Jeff Ward won the '85 Supercross Champion by two more points over Broc Glover. Glover protested Ward for riding backwards on the Rose Bowl track, but his appeal was denied.

Amazing when you see just how hard it is for a non-American to win this thing. I mean when Karsmakers won it SX was new and the euro's probably were not that far off the SX pace, but then only Bayle and Reed since. That really shows how good Reed was/is.

RC would have had 6 SX championships in a row if not for his bum knee.

Alessio Chiodi showed promise being a top 5 guy in 125 sx on his Husky , then of all things he got a back injury riding the nationals that derailed him .
