Werner Straube, professional photographer, came across over 200 of his old photos from the 1981 AMA Amateur National Championship held at RedBud. There were only four classes (100, 125, 250, and Open). Starting the next year, Loretta Lynn's was born. You can see them at his FaceBook site. Hope someone can do a link thing!

Hey Old-Man, did you see #36 on a 125 yamaha while you were in there? Free internet beer if you post them up haha. Should be easy to spot i had the welding hood front # plate and the goonball rear #plate/fender. Hole shot in the first moto so will be up front if he got any of that start, after that i was looking for sand every lap near the rear.

Thanks for posting those, Old Man. That's cool you have an old photo from Pontiac! I'm #32 on a Husky in these RedBud shots. Gary and Lou have repaired their friendship. Spreeman is #31 on a Yamaha 250. He won that weekend. So did Mark Hinkle #10 on a a 490 Maico.

I never heard of Feist before that but he went home with the #1 plate beat Liles and Bowen.

Paul,we moved to FL in 1971 when I was 11 so no moto in Mi for me. I kinda remember a MX track called something like Blackhawk?? just south of Temperance but details are sketchy. My cousin and i would ride through farmers fields for miles to get there. I dont know how long that track was around after we moved.

I was at this race with some of the Maryland District 7 riders, Glen Taylor, Mike Farmer, John Huston, David Witter, Skip Schildoher

I had a full blown 81 RPM KX250 that was an absolute Turbo Crank rocket!

Rode a few hare scrambles at Blackhawks, and Lumpy, Glen Taylor was blazing fast. Got to know the Schildhauers a bit. Mr Schildhauer was a fun guy! I lived a block from RPM's shop and became good friends with Chaplin and the Snider family. Great moto people. They did build rocketships!

Kinda funny I was born in Toledo but we lived in Temperance. RPM was popular in FL also. I always wanted a RPM engine or at least a turbo crank. All my shite was bone stock except for the Yamaha bulletins, 60 ignition on the 250s and 250 carbs on the 125s and maybe a boost bottle???

Remember "Impreglon" That Power rider/RPM was doing? I think that was a bunch of shit... I think Big Lou sprayed WD40 on the parts and put them in his oven to bake it on..LMAO!

Then those Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 Stage 4 engine MODS?..LOL good times

RPM had it's hay-day back in the 70's early 80's before my time

Thanks for taking the time to post those. The Silverdome was host to some amazing supercross racing. I remember 1200 amateur entries, and racing until 1 am lol!! And you are correct. Michigan/Ohio has produced a fair number of decent motocrossers.

Should have been "Impreglon 40"haha, spray & bake that on you Turbo crank good for atleast 5 holies.Do you remember that lava shite "Extrude hone"? Was forced through the cylinder polishing the ports? That was popular for a while.
Cool photos from Pontiac, I like the ones of Stanton drinking Gatorade from a bottle. You had to shake it up, all the white goody was at the bottom and Guy Cooper and his HOT wife too.
