Looking at buying a 77 AW400 for 2500; all original, needs nothing, seems like a good price?

Runs. looks great? As an old schooler-YEAH.
Sounds reasonable for a nice vintage Maico.

Is there an up-pipe made for this bike?

What was the price of the Bike back in 1977, I remember the Euro bikes back then always sold for a premium here in Aus.

The 400 AW is a great bike. Like any used bike, check the swingarm, steering, and wheel bearings. Also make sure there is no heavy pitting or rust on the pit tubes. Quick way to check the crank on this bike, is to remove the mag side cover, grab the crank and move up and down, and if you notice any movement you may want to think twice, or renegotiate the price. Otherwise, if all things are good and the body is good shape, then 2500.00 is definitely a fair price. Oh, also when the primary chain (clutch side) was last changed.

Regarding an up pipe, you can them from East Coast Maico, AMS, Pro form, Maico Only, and So Cal Maico. All of the 1977 GS enduro models had wheelsmith pipes installed when they arrived to America from Germany.

If you buy it, I think you'll be pretty satisfied.

What's a good set of rear shocks? Will a newer model Maico rear fender replace the oversized stock 77 ... Kinda unsightly IMO

May need a set of works performance shocks built just for you, stiffer fork springs, a new spark plug after jetting, modern cables and the TLC! Loc-tite every nut and bolt on the bike and then go VMX racing on one of the greatest motocross machines ever made...simple! That machine handles like a dream and puts all of the power to the ground
