In your scenario, Honda. Quality, resale value, performance. Honda wins everywhere against the RMZ, in my humble opinion. Same OTD price should make this an easy choice! Good luck with your new bike, man. There are few better feelings in this life than picking up a brand new bike!

Resale on Honda should be enough to sway you.

I’ve seen several used 17 Hondas priced well under $6000, so I wouldn’t let the resale sway you too much. Pick the one that you really want.

The only OEM who advertises with Vital is KTM. If an OEM was paying my wages I'd probably be able to afford a new van, mine has about 300,000 miles on it and needs replaced...

The man asked a question and I gave him my personal opinion, it's clear to see from our Shootout what riders thought of the Honda vs the Suzuki...or every other Shootout this year...

Btw, saw your comment in the Suzuki thread, sorry I picked Honda as you clearly dislike them heavily.

As much as I wish the '18 RMZ was better then a '17 CRF bike, it is not...so take the Honda

I have been considering a similar situation between the Suzuki ( which has always been my favorite and I've have a few), and possibly a Kawi or Honda. I think if they did something with that wackadoodle shock, like throw it in the metal bin and put something normal on it that may make a big difference!!

Thanks for the .02 so far guys....ideally it would be awesome to compare them back to back....I have been on 250f’s since 2010; had a 14 yz250f and a 16 250xcf most recently. So a big plus for me would be a 450 that is 250esque...if that makes sense

If you are off a 250 then you are probably used to riding a bit higher in the RPM's the Honda is definitely king there. At your height and weight either bike would be fine, so 50/50 call there. The spring forks on the Honda MAY be a benefit if you dont like setting up air forks too.

The RM-Z450 looks awesome, but the Honda is much better IMO. Note: I rode the '18 CRF450R back to back to the '18 RM-Z450, never rode the '17.

Sounds like 17 CRF needs 18 motor mounts for sure...but they are cheap enough I’m guessing

Does that ‘17 have estart? If not, the $800 would be $ well spent imo. Refinements to mapping and suspension are icing on the cake after the estart. Some people are totally fine kicking, one of my bikes has a kicker, the other has a button and is worth it the money.

ML512 shutting vitards down on the daily, haha. Saw you at milestone on Friday, that 18 crf250 looks badass. Secondly Screw E Start, waste of money and seven pounds is definitely noticeable no matter how fast you are.

As far as OP's question goes I absolutely love my 17 Honda 450; but I've been riding only red for almost a decade now and have never ridden a Suzuki in my life. Personal preference is key, so I would ask someone at the track to try theirs maybe before you spend almost nine grand. With resale you loose your ass on any used dirtbike but I've never had any issues selling my Hondas.

That was a very close 2nd to the 2018 CRF450R for me Manny. Both are way better than the Suzuki.
