17' Husky 125 verdict?

Been kicking myself in the ass for selling my CR125 last year. The bike was just flat out fun, easy to work on and cheap maintenance and that sound cant be beat. Local dealer has a 17' TC125 in stock. Thinking of grabbing it to make MX fun again.

Whats the verdict on the 17' 125? I remember reading about exploding gear boxes, reed issues, other stuff.

Whats the overall verdict? Time bomb or good to go?

Amazing bike. Packs some punch for being a 125. Good suspension, very light and nimble. I have 35 hours on mine and zero issues so far.

Incredible bike, i love mine. No gearbox or intake issues here, and know of loads of them here in the UK and not heard of any of those issues. Go for it, you won't be disappointed

I have a '14 KTM150SX and it is always fun to ride. I know the handling and suspension of the newer models is better and hear the engine is as well. Hard to go wrong if you're after fun.

I have the '18 150sx, so not dissimilar bike. It is LIGHT. You will find yourself pounding out lap after lap. Very well balanced, and faster than I thought it would be. Certainly not like the small bore 2 strokes of old.

We had a 2014 for 4 years, it was blast and had no issues (other than 2 ignition coil failures.....). The 16's were the first year for the new high output / lighter motor and those had some issues, but the 17/18's seem to have the issues addressed and are pretty solid. We just replaced our 14 with an 18 150SX and it is so much fun! Added a Lectron carb, Bills Pipe and J Haeseeker racing cylinder and Powervalve mods and it is a blast to ride, even for our 195 lb riders! On the 14 we'd have to shift down on Mt St. Helens, Now we are upshifting! Big Grins!

they go well, put a v force in it from new as the standard reeds to seal from new, have not put a lot of hours on my KTM version so can not talk about reliability,

32 Hours on my 17 KTM 150 and zero issues. Raced it most of the summer/fall, plenty of practice days, and a lot of the tracks out here are sand which is pretty hard on small 2 strokes.

Seriously considering getting either a KTM or Husqvarna 125 next year. I've currently got an 18 YZ125 which I love but what puts me off getting a non Japanese bike is reliability & availability of parts. Also unsure on the air forks compared to what I have.

You're in the UK, so I would go for it. The 125sx or 150sx will be great at the likes of Apex, Fatcats etc.I must admit, that the first ride on my 150sx here in America had me thinking I should have got a 450 as the tracks are very different; rhythm sections and doubles with little run up is harder on the little 2 stroke, and less like the rougher natural terrain I am used to back home..

Trevor Pope has a brilliant online service that is quick, and KTMs use so many interchangeable parts there's a lot of good stuff in circulation used. The air forks are really good; I'm a convert.

Same with mine from brand new. It ran okay, but when I pulled the standard reeds out to fit a v force before even riding it, there was daylight all around.

mine was the same, put the reeds up to light and big gaps, bolt the v force in, much better throttle response straight away,

Pulled the OEM reed block out of the cupboard to take some pictures. Brand new. KTM should be reimbursing the cost of my V force.

Parts availability for a KTM has not been an issues since 2005

Never thought to pursue it. I had already bought the V Force so didn’t give it much thought.

I've heard the Husky 125 is a pita to jet but maybe the reeds are the root cause of the problem? If I dropped $7k on a new one (which I almost did before getting a used 150SX) and thats how my reeds looked I'd be back at the dealer. Outside of the jetting, the Husky 125 is supposed to be badass and comparable to the KTM 150.
