Anyone know why so many greats have had this number at some point in their 250 career. Its almost like a rite of passage. Tomac, Barcia, Webb, Anderson, Jeremy Mcgrath, now Savatgy has chosen it for his career number and Im sure theres been more. Whats the reason these top riders end up with that number when theyre a top rider on 250s? Do top 250 riders end up at #17 for some reason, is that one of the lowest numbers they can get on 250s or something? Its just weird how you would see it on future greats bikes in the 250s for some reason before they would select their career number. Savatgy has put an end to this for the time being, it is a basass looking number.

Actually, the greats have all held the #1 at some point.

I know lol but outside of a number you have to run for a championship its a weird coincidence. Like was just noted Rick Johnson as well.

I think it's because it's one of the lowest numbers that has been available.

It’s just a coincidence, they all got the number off of the combined sx/mx points the year prior. There was like 4 or 5 years in a row that the #17 won a championship, and then Savatgy picked it as a career number

I have noticed this too, I have always run 17 on my bike because I thought it was a cool looking number!

It’s because John Dowd held on to 16 for so long people forgot it existed.
