150 racing

Would it be too much of a tall order to race a 150 in 250 class? I don't really have any chance of winning anyway but I am faster on a 150 than a 250

No problem, just expect to get a shitty start. it's a lot more fun than going backwards after a great start.

Depending on the class and rider a 150 can be very competitive with 250F's

In our hare scrambles the 200cc class (where majority of the riders ride a 150) we overall just about every race against 250f,250r, and even 450s

There are guys who race 125s and 150s in the 450 class. You will be fine!

If you not in the pro class you can get a holeshot on a 125-150.
I see it often enough in the amateurs

I guess it all depends in which class you plan on racing and what level ability you are.

If you're competing in a skilled based class (C, B, A) you don't stand a chance except maybe in the C class. If you're riding in a Vet/Age class you might stand a chance. All depends on how good of a rider you really are. If you race woods as oppose to MX I say you stand an even better chance at doing well in those types of races.

Husky TC 150...good choice.

Husky /Ktm 150 engine can make really impressive horsepower once tuned properly. Only few horsepower less than stock 250...

That's actually really interesting to see. Ive recently fitted a VHM head and a full pro circuit pipe so I can't wait to see the dyno numbers!

I've got that move patented. I also ride a wider bike than Alessi. I get moved out of the way a lot.

did you watch stankdogs outdoor adventure from last year?

he never got a decent start. I was at hangtown and both motos he rounded the first lap in last. but he would work his way up into the mid 20's.

you wont get a decent start but if you're quick and aggressive you'll be fine

I keep hearing 39HP on a stock 125. I have a really hard time believing that. A pic of a chart doesn't do it for me. Calibration could be off as well. I want to see a video posted in one continuous shot.

MXA's test shows them at 37hp. Most likely differences in dyno's I assume.

Okay, thats not really relevant. Stankdog is a really good pro rider and he ended up getting only a few points. He was able to work his way up through some less talented riders and take advantage of other peoples misfortunes. He will not beat a rider of his equal caliber on a two stroke. 25 out of 40...that should not be considered doing well. Stankdog on a 250F in the Nats can score points every week.

You however, should be fine racing locally, and either way, does it matter? As long as you are having fun, and like you said, you are faster on it.

Go for it.

i wouldnt get hung up on the actual numbers as dyno's vary so much. best way to get a more accurate reading from the average dyno is look at the difference as a percentage. this keeps you from getting hung on actual numbers and instead looking at the gains.

39 to 46 hp is a 15% increase which is pretty good. I remember Mitch payton saying getting a 10% increase out of a stock engine tends to push the limit. motor work plus the big bore it sounds like a legit increase in power.

Ride a 16-17 KTM/Husky 125 and you won't doubt it anymore.

reality is he would probably still run about the same lap times, and the group of riders in front of would just plain be faster still because they are just faster

really the difference in the race is on a 125, he starts 35th-40th on 1st lap. if he was on same bike (250f) he would start higher and he would be able to minimize mistakes and run more consistent laps, but he would still settle into somehwere around 20th. but it it easier to finish higher when you start up front

Here's a 1996 CR125 whooping 4 strokes, and even rounds first turn in 3rd. Don't think for a second that a 125 can't compete against 4 strokes. That bike is 21 years old.

Here's some kid named James Stewart on a 125 totally destroying a whole field of pro racers riding 250Fs. He destroys them like they were beginners in Moto 1 and even laughs about it. Moto 2 he goes from dead last to 1st.

B racer on a KTM 150 going down in turn 1 pileup. Starts in dead ass last, picks up and destroys them.

Don't think for a second that a 125 or 150 can't compete against 4 strokes. A 125 CAN run with 4 strokes. You're just going to do more work, and that's why people dont choose them. You can get a 450 and tractor around the whole track in 3rd gear, or ride a 125 like the cops are chasing you. Both will work.

I remenber that the KTM 150 SX 2013/2015 was doing 39HP on motocross action
, so yes 7 HP more on a 2017 with just cylinder head and cylinder porting seems only marketing values!
If you want more than 2 HP gain on your motor, you need to work on every parts
(crank; crank case; carburetor; pipe, silencer, piston; CDI and race gas).

The works KTM 125 are doing 43/44 but there's a lot of work inside !

its kinda the whole point everyone is making. how fast you ride has little to do with what bike you are on. In a race a rider will ride the same speed regardless of being on a 250 125

the difference in a race: a 250f will get the better start, and if there is a big jump the rider will have a better chance of clearing it.

he can win on a 150 but he has to be faster than eveeryone
