I think we've seen this story a few times...

Same HP, less torque and a much smaller power band. So, want to work harder to make it go fast? Sure, the 150 runs right with the 250F's. I think the rules need to be changed to allow the 150's in the 250 class... But the wise choice for a racer is going to be the 250F. JMHO

Needs to change so it's 250 2t vs. 250 4t.

When I had my 250sx I didn’t pull every hole shot. Nor did I always pull people down the straights. Where I had an advantage was being able to work on my bike for $0 and also sounding cool as fuck. Otherwise they’re on a very even playing field.

Love my '19 150SX. Learning curve to be sure in order to ride it to it's potential but man, always have a smile on my face especially screaming past a 4t making the rider look around like 'wtf was that!?".

Interesting topic. Surprised this hasn’t been mentioned/discussed on the forum up until now. Not sure about the 150T vs 250f but since we’re broaching unexplored topics, would love to hear people’s thoughts on the US Nationals vs MXGP?

Ok, I think I can support that... But now you've got 50HP to 40HP. That's a pretty big delta.

Power and frame management. Where the bikes make 50 HP vs 43 HP plus traction delivery are extremely different, and take two very different skill sets. I’m great at working around low torque and lots of top, with zero compression braking and a flexible steel frame. I’m not the best at maneuvering a bike that stops when you let off the gas and all of the chassis characteristics that come with aluminum.

One is not better than the other for all, one is better than the other for me. I honestly do not believe Justin Cooper for example could ride a fully tuned and kitted YZ250 at the speed that he could a YZF for race duration. They’re not for everyone.

You're using strong bait, but I think your cast ran a bit short. Wink

That style track is perfect conditions for the 2 stroke as well. If they wouldn't dig the American tracks 3ft deep, 2 strokes would have more of a fighting chance in the outdoors. I get they were fairly new in development at the time, but look at early 2000s Nationals when the tracks weren't so deep and see how much better the 2 strokes handled around the track and how much faster they could approach the corner and carry their moment around the 4 strokes. Nowadays it would only be fair to run even number displacement in the 250 class between the 250t and 250f. Obviously 250t are no match for 450s in the 450 class.

The sad part is that the only reason tracks are so deep now is to slow the field down. Seems they sorta shot themselves in the foot.

Let's do it! I live in West Linn so we aren't too far apart. Always looking for good dudes to ride with. I'm planning on hitting Albany practice alongside Jeffro503 on Sunday, 9am-2pm. Good people. Never ridden Albany yet but stoked to try it out. PM and let's link up Sunday or soon after.

They should make the following changes:

150 SX and MX class.
Allow 250 two strokes against 250 four strokes.
Allow 300 two strokes against the 450 behemoths.

Dirt Cycle racing would get INTERESTING again.
(and sound better too)

Mammoth Mountain 2-Stroke Fmf Open Brock Bennett was on 150cc against 125-500cc with second after going down in the back also.

And people would still complain.
