125sx to a 250f

So I’ve been riding my 125 for about 5 months now and it has a few issues so I’m selling it and taking my dads yz250f. I’ve never rode a 250 before and I was wondering how different they are, the main thing I’m worried about is the power and if it will be to fast for me. Can anyone tell me how different they are and how much more power the 250 will have?

Since the 250 will be yours, ride the bike and formulate your own opinion. No one will be able to tell you if a bike is too fast for you other then yourself. If you can ring out a 125 a 250 should be no problem.

You‘ll be fine, just don’t chop the throttle when you‘re coasting over a jump.

250f’s are the easiest, most user friendly bike to ride out of all of them, fast or slow. May feel a bit boring after a 125 though 😄

Like fourfourone said, formulate your own opinion on it. I can only give you my thoughts from when I made that same mistake, uh, switch, 16 years ago:

"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."
"Cool, it finally started."
"Holy crap, this thing is fast! Wait, I stalled it."
"OK, it started. Wow, it really is fast. OK, first jump..."
-MASSIVE ENDO-
"Ouch. Also, it stalled when I crashed it."
"Wow, this thing is hard to start."

-"hey, I'm a lap down already"-

Newer 250Fs won't have as many issues, of course. Good luck!

250Fs are much easier to ride than 125s due to the way they deliver the power. Take it easy at first to get used to the extra weight and engine braking.

The ergonomics of those two bikes will be extremely different but once you adapt you will notice that the 250f is much easier to ride fast consistently

Stay on top of maintenance and be patient in the beginning and you’ll be fine, it will have more power but the power will be much more user friendly

I recently made this same switch, and I spent the last decade and a half on yz 2 strokes. It took me 10 hours to adapt to the yzf, but I started feeling pretty good on it at 7 hours on the motor. It's weird adapting to balance points and stuff on such a different bike.

I'm the kind of guy to stand up around most of the track. Only really sit in the middle of ruts, or high acceleration areas. Anyways it was very difficult for me to stand on the yzf for the first 7 hours. Had to slow down a lot and think about what I was doing

Change “wow” to “f@#k” and I completely agree even today with my 2020 kx250.
