125's getting scarce

My Son, not quite 14, has outgrown his 85 before he even really learned how to ride it. No way I'd put him on a 250F, but new 125's are scare if not impossible to find right now, and the used market is littered with 10 year old, $4,000 project bikes. Yes, we could buy a roached $4,000 2008 YZ125 and make it "as good or better" than a new bike for about the same cost, but it would still be a 13 year old bike. I hope the OEM's are noticing their missed opportunity.

New KTM, Husky, GG 65’s are just as bad. Impossible to find anywhere

Like others said. Definitely not just 125s. Waiting lists for months on 110s... Four year old KLX140s routinely asking over MSRP. Entire dirt bike market is crazy.

It falls in to that project bike category, but she’s cheap

Supply chains across the globe have become increasingly stressed over the course of the past year. I would venture to guess that freight costs and raw material availability aren't the only reasons manufacturers haven't produced more bikes.

I'd also guess that if manufacturers could make more bikes at a profit, then they would.

Recently bought a new 2021 YZ 125 and had to drive 7 hrs to find one. Local dealers were sold out and not getting anymore. Called a dealer near Seattle (live near Spokane) and they had two in crates so I grabbed one of them.

I saw a new YZ125 at Romney 2 weeks ago when I got my YZ250F. It was probably the first time in 5 years I had seen one on a dealer floor. Of course someone had a deposit on it already and were on their way to pick it up. But that’s the kind of bike you get on a list at your local dealer and snatch up as soon as they call.

I have a KTM, but I specifically want the Yamaha for him as it has a bit more bottom end and a better suspension package. Just feel it's a better fit for his skill level.

I got my 11 year old a 2018 then they came out and now at 15 he has really grown with rhe bike.... the only thing I bought was a lighter spring when we first got it. Clicker changes as he got faster.

Aside from that, changed the needle clip and I've never ridden a bike thats so crisp and clean running... especially off rhe bottom.

Since you already have a ktm, sorry, but I think you are nuts to source your kid the yami. I am not saying its a bad bike, but nearly every part swaps between the 250, 450 and 125 so it makes life a lot easier.

I know this is about mx bikes but I just saw a 1978 Kawasaki kd 125 trail bike on marketplace with a $2500 asking price . People have seriously gone off the rails with used dirt bike prices

KTM/Husky/GasGas 125’s in my area are extremely hard to find at the dealership. The shop my son is sponsored by only received two Husky’s and they sold right away. They got one GasGas MC125 and they didn’t even know it was coming till it arrived and they don’t think they’ll get another one till August. I was extremely lucky to get it for him.

In June of 2019 I bought a very clean 2012 YZ125 for my son from a guy who used it to ride around his farm. Had only 20 something hours on it. I paid $2900 for it and thought that was high. I gave it a fresh top end, and tore down the suspension, including swingarm and re-greased everything. Also had a local Enzo guy, re-spring and revalve it. Since then, he's only put 8 hours on it. I wonder what I could sell it for today?
I'm used to bikes gradually going down in price, maybe I could break even on the $900 I spent on the suspension?

$3500 last December
It’s a 2007 in REALLY good shape.

Some of the peeps around h’yar commented that it was pricey.
Laughing
Fresh Wheels
Some “New Look” plastic up front
Fresh FMF exhaust
Fresh top-end
Guts seat/foam
Bars that I actually like! (Always a bonus)
Etc., etc., etc.
I gladly paid the asking price and said,”Thanks!”
It’s a blast to ride. I’m gonna race it this weekend against all the other old guys and their 450s!
Woohoo

Like almost all manufacturers of anything, the motorcycle OEMs cannot build product fast enough right now. There is sooo much worldwide demand that has not been met because of Covid shutdowns, that supply chains for everything are stretched thin. If they could manufacture more 125s, believe me, they would.
The other problem is that from the day an OEM gives a green light to SOP (start of production,) to the time you'd likely see those bikes in a showroom is a minimum of 3 months in good times. Based on what I'd guess is the shipping situation in the ports right now, I bet it's more like 6 months. I seriously doubt any manufacturer is going to bet big on 2-strokes that might land right in the middle of a post-Covid recession apocalypse.

I deliver a hazmat load to Long Beach on 3-24. I,ll try to find out the port situation is. Problem is manufacturing of everything is behind. Congress is trying to make being an IC illegal. So over 1 million drivers will lose there jobs, including me. At least I won’t be stuck with a 150k truck and a 1,200 a week payment. 05-07 cr125,s are really hard to find

The port situation is not good with no signs of letup. 30+ ships anchored at all times since January waiting to be unloaded.

Thanks! I got lucky and had a dealer in NJ unexpectedly have 2 MC65's show up. I randomly had called them the day after they showed up and grabbed one. Drove 3.5 hours each way but we got a bike! It's currently torn down and waiting to get the motor back from Lynks and the suspension from Factory Connection.

Took Milo, my dog, to Huntington Dog Beach on Sunday...

The boats (container ships) were lined up like planes line up for LAX!

Not Good!
