So apparently no KTM 125 has ever been homologated... Would I have to contact KTM about this or will it just not be possible to get it homologated? I was planning to race a KTM 125 for the 2014 supercross season and it doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

Probably won't be able to. If it's not on the list (AMA Pro Racing Rulebook) you won't be able to compete on it. Letters to KTM is always a good idea. At least they have a contact address that you can write to, unlike the Japs.

You can always ride a YZ125. They're easily modifiable and fast to start out with.

Yep, here's that list:
http://amaproracing.cdn.racersites.com/assets/AMAP-2014-Approved-MX-Mot…

The following equipment list shows all motorcycles which are approved for Motocross / Supercross. This list is provisional and
additional manufacturers will be added as they are approved.

I tried to post this with the spaces to separate it out, but it got jumbled when I posted it. It looks like you could race a 2006 KTM 125.

That's getting pretty outdated, I'll probably end up deciding between a yz125 or a 250f (yuck). Thanks for the help!

No offense intended- by why spend the money to race the 2014 Supercross season on un-competitive equipment that would put you at a clear disadvantage?

Doesn't seem like a good return on investment...

Same reason you race a 85 CR250 at Loretta's...

Not exactly- racing a 125 in Supercross has already been attempted and exploited in recent years- been there done that -and so if it is being done as a "popularity" contest--he is a few years too late.

IMO--Racing an 85 CR250 at Loretta's has more to do with the vintage bike populatiry more so then the 2 stroke popularity---otherwise he would have raced a newer CR250.

Yes they can race, the last KTM 2-stroke in the SX lites class I remember was raced by Michael Williard it was a 144 in Seattle in -09 ? maybe.

Nice light flickable bike, but launching not so much, I don't think you have enough adreneline in your body to endure practice,
always coming up short in the rhythem sections each time to survive the night.

your racing a 2 -stroke on a 4 stroke track.

Ricky Renner did pretty good on his at New Orleans. I don't remember him casing any jumps.

Even so, I would try to secure some sponsorship money way before attempting the whole SX series. I would try to race maybe an AX before attempting an SX cold turkey.

I don't think it would happen even if the bike was homologated. I think you have vastly underestimated the speed of the 250 SX class.

I know this is old but I thought I would post this up for all the four stroke fans. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NjDZD9sirEE
I just watched your vid and the one of JS7 on a 125. You know what you guys have in common?

NOTHING!

This thread has plunged into ridiculousness. This has to be a fishing expedition.

You may not have anything in common with Bubba but do what you want to do man. If you're ok money wise, it's your life, do what you love. And if you're in the dome on a small-bore pinger, I'm bringing two air horns and will be your number one fan all night.

Not to steer this off, but I watched the Stewart races (and they were awesome), but did ya'll catch the Federer v. Monfils Shanghai Open match on those videos. Monfils was awesome from the first game. Federer played good, but Monfils could have beaten any of the top 3 that day.

"All Night" Laughing I don't think he will make it out of day practice, that is if he made it out of the " Ricky Carmichael road to supercross " at an AX race, but this what what they are trying to weed out at the national level.

Fuck the AMA and the bike manufactures for killing the 125 class.
Dumb move.

Here is a list of the AMA board members, voice your concerns with them. The AMA sells out the racers and has turned
into just another bureaucracy.

I know it's trendy to blame the AMA for everything wrong with the sport but the real problem doesn't lie with them in this case. The homologation rule is easy to satisfy, KTM thinks it's not worth the effort.

Exactly Shawn.

the point being AMA has been there and still is there to do the work it needs too. I don't like that it rains on some weekends particularly on our race dates, MUST be AMA's fault as well.
