We do this at my work also. Tie the ring gear bolts together for the fork lift drive units

I went through safety wire class in the USAF. Lots of it on aircraft. They take it very seriously. And don't lose the bits you cut off.

What was it we used... .020 & .032 right?

10-12 twists per inch on the little stuff (.020) and 6-8 on the .032?

That sounds right. I got out in '84 so it's a lil hazy.

After a few years...they put me in R&D on the inspection side: it was my job to know...I'm hoping it stuck. If not...shit might start falling out of the sky!

I found a young Ivan Ramirez stuck on the side of a trail with a broken chain in Baja while pre-running for the Baja 500 and I used a small piece of safety wire to keep his master link together. Apparently he made it another 50 miles to his awaiting father. Safety wire FTW!

I tighten the fuel can hose to the fitting on the can with safety wire. Overkill, but my can doesn't spill a drop!
