I think he can end up pretty high, as he is a consistent rider when he stays uninjured. The opposition is very strong: Cairoli, Villopoto, Paulin, Desalle, Van Horebeek, Strijbos, Nagl,... Mostly he'll finish around fifth to eigth place I believe with maybe some podiums on the tracks that suit him very well.

Overall.... sixth or seventh.

Top 5 is a tough place in GP, he was getting there until he got bloody hurt and it just kind of snowballed away from him, it must be frustrating for him watching JVH considering he used to wax him, really he should be fighting the top boys this year and especially now he has the champs bike underneath him so my fingers are crossed for a top 5 spot.

I'd like to know just what the Americans did to him to change his personality. Before he went to the States he was irreverent and fun loving but he became (and remains) a miserable bastard. The thing is, he may be more "professional" now but he was more successful then.

I think he'll do better because he is on a 350.

I think riding with Cairoili (and Keano to a certain extent) will bring him on a lot and he'll get on the podium a couple of times this year. Hopefully he will anyway, he's had a tough couple of seasons.

It's been tough for him and I'm really hoping he gets it this year with a view to going for it next year, to be fair the gp's have been rough on a lot of the major riders injury wise aside from AC.

Pissing my pants laughing but you are so right.

Although I think it's slightly unfair to blame it on the Americans I think we should just for kicks Laughing

Don't agree. Back in Europe on the Kawa he was the only EVER to challenge Herlings. He even beat Herlings now and then. That was the best he has ever looked.

Is he on 350 I didn't know that bet that'll suit him better as he rode awesome at mxon on the 250

I think he might sneak a couple of podiums. Should be regular top.5 contender. Dont think he will be a championship contender. Hard to predict mx1 this year with so many top riders. The 350 is the best bike for him

Tommy can go as fast as anyone on his day, maybe the 350 will let him do it a shade more consistently...

I can't drop off to sleep at night without having flashbacks of Reedy nailing Searle in a turn to snatch 2nd place away from him at Budds Creek in 2007.

Even so, bar Lommel in 2012, Searle still has a great record at the MXdN.

Mmmm, can't remember it, I usually am sad at MXDN, we've had some great teams but are usually done in the 1st turn of the 1st moto!

Tommy was blazing fast until he came over to the US and started riding all their flat, shitty tracks...eating their unhealthy food and taking on their pompous egocentric attitudes. I figured it would take him a few years back in the motherland to wash off all that shit he picked up from Merica.

Tommy Searle beat Herlings in 9 motos in 2012 - this is only counting motos which saw Herlings finish.

He beat Van Horebeek in 17 motos in 2012 - only counting motos which saw Van Horebeek finish.

He beat Paulin in 14 motos in 2011 - only counting motos which saw Paulin finish.

Those are solid results against riders regarded as being among the very best in the GPs, if not the world.

His record at the Motocross Des Nations looks like this:

1st overall (MX2, 2014)

2nd overall (MXGP, 2013)

6th overall (MXGP, 2012 - but it was at Lommel, and he's not the strongest in the sand)

3rd overall (MXGP, 2011)

4th overall (MX2, 2009)

2nd overall (MX2, 2008)

2nd overall (MX2, 2007)

12th overall (MX2, 2006 - his first nations, and he was only about 6 years old at the time)

So he clearly does have the potential to be a frontrunner in the GPs, as his CV shows.

He remains one of the top 250 riders in the world, and there's a chance he'll be able to carry that form over into the MX1 class, now he's on a competitive bike that suits his riding style.

And i've a feeling - or perhaps more of a hope - that he could be the surprise package of this season.

I really think Tommy could surprise a few this season. If you think back over the years, even when he was really young, he has always been in the championship fight when he has had the bike to do so. Obviously doing that this year in MXGP with the competition he will be up against is going to be really tough, but he has proven he can beat anyone on his day, so we will see. I think top 5 in the championship is a realistic target for him and that would be a good season if he could achieve that

As far as his change in attitude is concerned. I reckon Jamie Dobb might have more to do with it than his trip to America. He certainly seems more focussed and professional under Jamie Dobb's guidance
