The Viral Nation podcast did an interesting comparison on the 07 Orland0 vs 21 Orlando and it very interesting.
Starts at 4.25 and does both 250 and 450 and uses the average lap times vs just the fastest lap.

I like Scott, but this is really not comparable. The whoops were way gnarlier in 21 than than 07. Watch them come into them with no care in the world back in 07, no way that would happened last week. There was also no speed check before the finish line or 6th jump in the rythem before the finish. These all add up to roughly 3 seconds a lap. These guys also had 5 more laps on the track to keep pace. Its pointless to compare these times..

Yes but if you look at the 250 class this is not the case..

For arguments sake, let's just say the track layouts were indeed identical down to the inch (it wasn't), you still have to account for every other condition- air temp, ground temp, humidity, soil, etc. The fact that ANYONE thinks these are comparable is absolutely laughable. Track records only matter for that day, especially on somethingthat gets reworked with heavy equipment regularly.

cant directly compare. As close as they made the track its not the same, its not like racing Nurburgrin in the 80's and then in the 00's because the track never changes outside of rain.

and the 250's are vastly different because the factory bikes from PC were putting out aroun 46ish HP and theyre now pushing into the mid 50s

BUT rider skill and speed is different. James was at his peak around this time and hadnt suffered the accumulated concussions he would rack up from 2010 and and on. James I would peg to 1st-3rd and RC4, just doesnt have the finess and i would even argue the bike setup to beat guys like Webb and Roczen. But i would still peg RC to be top 5

I think it's funny... Peoples Captain Obvious responses to this... he said in the video you can not compare really different decades of racing.. Yes, the tracks were different but I still think it is interesting and it is as close as you get to be able to lay down lap times and kinda see on a very similar track.
