#47 Troy Welty. The Weltys were the coolest family ever in existence. That's a family I miss a lot. I used to ride at their house all the time. They lived right by Mouse in Canyon Country and had a cool little track we'd all ride on. That family was a 100% motocross family.

I just happened to stumble across this site and posting and was blown away by the names I read and remembered from back in the day.
I just learned that Walt James passed away this week, who I met as a kid at the "Dunes"
As I read on was reminded of my days at "Shadow Glen" and the International track.
My first time on a bike was when Dave Haugh sat me on an XR75 and sent me down the track yelling at me to shift dammit shift.
Later on in my years I had the good fortune of working with the best this sport had to offer
Jim Felt, Rick Mercier, Dave Haugh, Al Baker, Goose, Keith McCarty, Johnny O'Mara, David Bailey, Donny Hanson, George Ellis, Bob Hannah, Marty Tripes, Dave Arnold on and on. Wow what a trip seeing these names and remembering the good times.
Thanks for the memories.

By the way, The hot chick on the XR75 was one of the Anderson twins, Diane her sister was Denise.
Sadly Dave Haugh passed away last year suddenly.
Diane and Dave broke up in the early 70's and years later Diane married Jim Felt
tuner for "The Flyi'n Hawain", Chuck Sun, Broc Glover and Johnny "O'Show" O'Mara

Love these stories brings back good memories. I remember the mouse and snake rivalry (don’t know if you guys really had one though) I remember watching Dans races because I raced with his step brother and my dad used to know Gary. My sister raced 80s then so I also watched all the 80 races I knew Kyle Lewis we both lived in Simi Valley at the time. I was friends with Dave wetly we raced together so I knew them great family although their sister I think did not like me LOL. We knew the lippies very well our dads hung out and having a sister all the girls loved Allen. Well I could go on and on keep them coming.

Hey snake its cool to talk to you. We did not know each other we used to watch mouse’s races and one day my dad said there is this kid racing with the name snake so we were hooked. Good times. I started racing dunes in 78 we did not know much about moto then I really should have been racing 80s well in 82 I started racing 250 int and that’s when we started getting to know every one. The numbers I used were E7 and then 516 man all the good stories don’t even know where to start. I would say we knew all the locals. Vicky Welty thanks I for got her name I raced a team race with Dave once and when I came to their pits she just snapped LOL the lippies I would say we were good friends I raced with randy and hung out with him. Did you know the densfords?

Hey dr516--Its Dan Lamb here. Like Toby I love hearing stories from you guys. I of course knew everyone you mention. Weltys,Mouse the Densford and everyone else were my childhood family and I miss them all. Good times at the ol Dunes. So you raced with my step brother Eric. Eric was awesome. One of those kids with absolutely zero natural talent but some how he went pretty fast. I remember him working so hard. Oh and yeah Vickie was a firecracker. I was just a kid so she loved me like a little brother. When you''re 5-12 years old you never see that side of the ladies..lol Loved the whole Welty family and spent a lot of time in their shop and riding at mouses down the road.

Hi Dan Doug Russell here my best story about Eric is one day on the international track it pored rain all night and was still raining Sunday morning I think their was only two or three of us and Eric shows up in this brand new all white gear after we went through the first turn that nice new gear was toast LOL. How is he doing? Your dad mentioned he is a fireman now. I remember our dads used to talk and that you used to park behind the sign up booth. You most likely knew Jeff Barbacovi I think my little sister had a crush on all you guys. Yes the dunes holds very special memory’s for me some of the longest friendships I have had started their. The reason I remember the Densfords is because of our sisters, I don’t think they got along very well LOL.how about the Johnson’s I am sure you knew them got to know lance it was a little later though after dunes closed. Dave wetly had that friend that was his mechanic I remember him but not his name. my favorite Dave wetly story on the shadow Glenn track off the start he moved over on me and through up this soft ball sized rock hit me square in the eye blood every where swelled up like a foot ball went over to give Dave a hard time and his mom went crazy to make sure I was ok she got all upset when I told I was racing the second moto man we were core LOL drop some names it helps jog the memory.
