Excellent build you've got the eye my friend. Where did you find the carbon look fork covers? I've looked around and can't seem to locate that exact look. Thanks again.

Thanks! I actually made the fork decals myself out of 2 separate parts. I bought some 4d reflective carbon vinyl, it's also the same stuff I wrapped my silencer with. and I bought some kyb decals and traced out the exact shape of the kyb decal in the carbon look vinyl. I laid the carbon on the forks and then very carefully put the kyb decal over that in the exact same spot so it would look like one piece! Won't find these anywhere.

FYI you can buy real carbon fiber covers and they're not that expensive.

Technical Touch, Moose and Pro Grip sell them. There must be others as well, I'm just going off the to of my head.

X2, Lightspeed, Zeta,. Slide them over, put a fork decals on them. And black electric tape, bottom and top, keeps them from moving.

I thought about that but I really don't like real carbon fiber fork guards that wrap all the way around. I needed something below the kyb decal just to hide a few imperfections.

To eaches own brother. I think Harley's are for the trash can and the brushed look is for the kitchen sink!
Good, bad or indifferent thanks for the comment.

Impressive work, how some put in the effort, well it shows. There are no short cuts.

Dunno if people feel it, but the 2005 YZ250, that you liked, had a one off frame, that got critique from Reed and others being to stiff, so it got changed 2006-2017 to a more flexible one. I had a 2005, and it felt stiff and wrong in contrast to my 2006 YZ250, but my suspension had issues, prolly the reason since I'm slow fuck.

Sort of good you got the 2009 instead of the 2005, and the 2009 had some more upgrades to your favor as well (swing arm, chain guide, brakes, clamp and the KYB SSS that you didn't need. But this I'm sure you know already.

Was it a carbon wrap on the muffler? BUD racing makes a carbon silencer for 150 that is very good if you change your mind.

Keep us posted!

Hey can you explain how you get your parts to shine like that. I am going to be rebuilding a bike soon and could really use some advise for polishing up the old parts! Thanks

I didn't get much done this weekend, took my daughters and wifey to the lake. I have made a little progress this week though. I worked on the ignition and chain guard a bit. I can't find carbon fiber ones anywhere!! So I compromised. Check this out.
Clean yes.

Pot of boiling water. Brought down to a simmer.

Add dye and parts to said water for about an hour.. Stirring occasionally for flavor.

Remove carefully from the dye water. You could make a fubar mess if your not careful. and BAM! Cool shit right there.

Detail the hardware and mount up the instant intimidation!

Depends on what your trying to shine! A drill, mothers polish, microfiber cloths, green scotch bright pads, a tooth brush and a lot of elbow grease will go a long way!

I have no idea how it will hold up. It should be good forever but we shall see. I tried it on the back disk guard as well but it didn't work on that part for some reason. I ruined it.

Very nice. That bike looks pretty similar to when I bought an 09 brand new! I think you'll love the clamps, my yz always felt weird in corners or high speed sweepers until I put 22mm clamps on.

Did you notice any draw backs to your 22mm clamps?

Nope, but you'll get headshake if you raise the forks too much.

Bike is looking great. I had a friend do some carbon fiber hydro dipping on a few parts for my bike. Turned out great and so far it's very durable.

Thanks for all the comments ! I'm really enjoying this little build. It's no black diamond work that's for sure. I don't have the time or the budget for that kind of thing.
Unfortunately I'm down and out with some serious food poisoning at the moment. Uggg wtf man, and on top of that its my one weekend a month to be on call for work. Rough times. any woman would say I'm just being a sissy though!. Maybe tomorrow will be better and I'll be able to work on my stuff.
I'm going to get into the engine just a bit. It's too fresh to break into the bottom end IMO but I'm going to do the top end with the wiseco single ring piston and do the porting and polishing myself. Wish me luck. More to come.

Heal up the bike will still be there. Food poisoning can take a couple weeks to get your energy back

Any update on this project?
I got super sick and I'm just now getting over it... Food poisoning turned into a serious case of bronchitis. I was down and out. I did get a few more really cool parts and plan on updating this week. Stay tuned.
