I am currently throwing together a four bike last generation two stroke garage build! I have an 04 CR250, an 07 KX250, an 06 RM250, and an 05 YZ250. I have been working on these things coming up on almost a year now and have finally started to put them back together. It's been a crazy amount of work but after the builds are done I am going to be doing a shootout style video of the builds! I thought it would be cool to add the shootout theme to all of the last gen two stroke bikes. I am basing them off of the 05 Supercross season. Check out the start of the builds in my latest video below!

My channel has a bunch more videos on the project and feel free to follow my instagram for the most recent updates as well!

Thanks guys!

Cool idea and looking forward to it. You've probably handicapped the CR by picking the worst year of the Gen 3-framed models at least as far as the motor is concerned.

Depends on if he is doing motor work to them. The CR can rip if done properly. Handling is second to none.

I like your style!
I’m in the midst of one of these collections/shootouts as well. Going for super modified with kit suspension on all mine though! With exception of the Yamaha.
I’m about 2 years away from them all being done.

Don’t want to derail your thread. Just stoked about the 2strokes. I am giving my CR some love at this very moment!
Can’t wait to see an update on your setups.

The market the way it's been the last year, I had to take what I could get at a decent price. I would have loved to grab an 06 YZ too but hey its still going to be pretty damn awesome.

Too bad we're not closer, my 04 YZ250 and my son's 03 CR250 could be added to the shootout.

love this!

my current build roster for this winter

02 cr250 (barn find low hour all orignal bike)
04 cr125 (blown up after a competitor shop built it, going to give it away through my shop to a customer)
05 yz250 (15 a kit suspension, yzf swingarm, some team issue JGR titanium)
13 yz250 (might make my ramp/fmx big hit bike, my 18 yzf it too good for track to put fmx suspension on it)
13 yz125 (might sell when done might keep not sure)

Enjoyed the video last night Greg. It's cool that you have 4 bikes and with all the common upgrades like pipe, tires and carb same.

I wasn't a fan of rhe lectron, but its really cool they have this new one... my gripes were fasteners, left hand choke, carb length causing fit issues and needing a longer cable. Awesome that they addressed everything and can compete with smartcarb that is top notch as well.

Moto on brother!!!

Really curious to try them out and see how they work compared to the old models. But I'm definitely most pumped on the design changes they made for sure

Hey Greg,

Watching your video...its not the center gasket on the rm250. Its the center cases aren't matched properly. If you put a straight edge on, you will notice one side sits lower. I had this happen 15 years ago.

I fixed it by clamping down the lower side bolts first and then torqing down the other other side.

Back in the day I had this happen, but the coolant didn't leak, it just sucked the gasket and ran lean.

Back then, I remember seeing a machinist mount the cases in a mill and then machine them flat and square.

Also, if you run the 09 rmz450 fork protectors, you can drop those silly fork protector guides.

Thanks for that info Bruce! I will have to do that on a future build. I like that idea!

Awesome what you've done here. You did a great job with the restorations and graphics and all are on point. You've highlighted a great era in MX history in the US - four superstar riders, and Japanese two-stroke tech at its peak before the AMA and others decided we should all ride four strokes! Two thumbs up. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! It was an awesome project to complete and thought it would be great to bring back some memories from that epic time in moto. Good stuff!
