Hey guys, looking to in the near future build myself a 500 smoker in a modern KTM chassis.
I’m also restoring a ‘97 CR500 engine and chassis at the moment.
For the Kato, just due to some limitations in getting a clean 500 motor/sourcing parts, especially in Australia, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Panthera 500 engines and how they perform? Are they worth it or should I stick with the real deal classic steel?
Cheers

Yes, very expensive, but something properly engineered. You'd be looking at megabucks no matter what route you go with a new cases etc 500 build. You'd get a thoroughly modern, 6 speed 500 / 510cc bike going that route.
My experiences with Panthera products, is of dreadful engineering, and no interest whatsoever from them in rectifying problems. You can find details and some video I put up in the first few pages of the 'Just another 2016 KTM 250SXF Chassis KX500 ....' thread. Also, another poster appeared to elect not to use cases, and, perhaps a crank , that he bought from them for his '500 Two Stroke Project 2019 ' thread . Both here in bike builds.
Caveat Emptor, as they say.
If you're interested, let me know, and I can then PM you his details.
