Just picked up a 1983 Honda CR 60....and I'm PUMPED!!! Located it about 4 hours away and the guy was asking $500...I offered $300 due to the drive and we settled on $400 which I was pleased with. He then informed me that he couldn't get the bike running (although it supposedly was back in June/July) so we then agreed on $350...DEAL!!! I don't know why but I've always been obsessed with these little bikes, they are just so damn cool in my eyes. I have a 3 year old boy at home and this is going to be our project build together, my honest intention is to never work on this bike unless he is with me out in the garage....this seriously might turn into a several year project haha. I've seen the BBR/Jimmy Lewis CR 60 and yes it is BADASS but unfortunately that's not what this is going to be. I do not have the means to fabricate things like he did but don't worry, this thing is going to be impressive when WE are done with it!

Does anyone have any pertinent info they'd like to share with me. I certainly know nothing about these bikes and will learn as I go. Anyone know any specifics as far as what CR 80 parts from the same era may fit this thing?

Here are a few pics to start the project off with:

A LOT of work lie ahead of us

Pleased to see the exhaust was all there and in-tact

I'm not 100% convinced that the Honda Engineering staff came up with this double nut design haha

Although dirty, everything is practically there

I love the purple sparkle spray paint...nice touch!

Wasn't even aware these parts came with the bike. A brand new case, brand new clutch assembly, brand new shifting gears and shift drum, etc.

They're the coolest most bad ass little MX bikes ever made. Look just like their big brother factory bikes. Here's mine. Was all original. All I did was clean it up and after all said and done. It came out pretty sick.

Before....

After..... Seeing it's a 1984 CR I had to put the #1 on it for the #1 rider in 84 and my hero David Bailey.

Badass!!! Have any suggestions you wouldn't mind sharing before we dive in? eBay I assume is the "go to" for parts it looks like? Find any other brand/model parts that fit this machine?

Thanks!

Props Brett! Nothing better than spending time with the kids and encouraging them to have a little mechanical aptitude. I have twin 5yo boys and they love to tinker. They're at the stage where they mostly just destroy stuff now, but at some point we will have some projects together!

Here they are at 2 years. They have ditched the plastic crap tools for the real thing now.

Parts aren't easy for the 60's seeing they only made them 2 years. Ebays the market place for most. But DC plastics has reproduction plastic kits for them. Im not sure about interchangeability of 83/84 cr 80 parts such as front end and suspension stuff as I wanted to keep mine all original.

We started to do a little work today on the little racer. Actually cleaned up decent, after 2 cans of brake cleaner to the get all the grime off everything haha.

Best of all....a little carb work and the thing runs like a champ! (trying to figure out how to post a video but can't haha)

Thanks man. Not trying to get a dad of the year award or anything haha, honestly I think this is going to be a really fun project for me and him to do together. I brought home a 450 and this 60 in the bed of my truck the same day...he immediately knew it was his when sitting next to my big bike haha. I'm gonna try my best to not to much of anything to/on this bike without his help.

I love these bikes. It was the first bike I hopped on after racing my pw50. It was my buddies bike. I only rode it once and I've wanted one since. I found a really clean one last year and when I got to the bottom of the ad it said 20 days old. I was so bummed, it was cheap and I knew it was gone. Hard to find even beat up. Cant wait to see how this turns out. LOVE IT.

Recently had a new baby girl join the clan this past week so work out in the garage is taking a pause. BUT, we can't not work on our jump and trails in the back yard hahahaha

While baby sister slept this morning, the boys got out in the garage for a bit to play with the seat.

The boy helping me prep the removal of the old cover...of course with his combine in the other hand haha

Old seat cover off which exposed a pretty decent seat foam. Honestly, I was expecting it to be broken down a lot more than it was. In my mind, this was perfectly useable.

A little of the overspray from that sweet purple/white sparkle paint job haha. Of course, all the staples were badly rusted and took some finesse in getting them all out without breaking them.

You will never see the underside of the seat base once installed but the purple overspray bothered me. Just threw a light coat of white colored "plastic rustoleum" paint on there...not perfect but way better. Let me say, a 3 year old boy with a can of spray paint can be a dangerous thing haha

Quite pleased with our performance on this seat!

As a kid, like everyone else my first bike was a YZinger 50 (not sure when they started calling them pw's) But after that when everyone else got KX 60s or XR80's, I got on a 1984 CR60. That was the baddest little bike on the planet and I don't remember ever not getting the hole shot, even against the bigger kids on 80's. Then I would promptly crash and get passed by everyone...

Didn't really do anything but thought I'd update

Purchased an original manual for the thing. Luckily we have the proper equipment at work to punch and bind books SO...

Purchased this probably about 4 weeks ago and it finally showed up, a complete new plastic set :-). Kind of thinking of going with a white colored front number plate but now have a new red one just incase I change my mind haha
