The above pictures are just before I bought this bike. Needless to say it was a little neglected. The below picture is about where I am at now with it.

Keep up the good work. I am interested in how this is going to turn out. Do you have a picture of the whole bike before you started working on it?

No, I forgot to take some when I brought it home. I started to clean it and the next thing I knew the electric impact was out and the bike was in pieces. Some of the bigger bolts had rust on them; so I had to know what I had gotten myself into. I'll take some pictures later today. The motor is slowly but surely being taken apart. Now I need to order some of the specialty tools. With being in such bad shape cosmetically I was pleased to see the motor was in good shape internally.

Big fan of the 09-12 CRF450r models. These bikes were the lightest best turning combo 450's for that era & also respond well to suspension / engine mods.. They are severely underrated, but are exceptional mx bikes with some tweaks. Looking forward to seeing you bring her back to life.
I'd suggest sending your suspension to FC as they have some very good valving specs for these models. On a 10 model owned they modified the rear shock internally which made a huge difference in the chassis feel over stock.

I completely agree with you H4L. I also have a 2012 CRF250R. Which is why I wanted another 2012. Factory Connection also did the suspension on that bike. They will be receiving the suspension for this one as well. However I'm thinking about putting the Showa suspension from CRF250R on this one too. Factory Connection also recommended this mod. But it has been tough finding a set of forks that haven't been blasted by roost or badly scratched. I'm going to call them Monday to ask about how 2012 and 2014 Showa forks compare.

The stock oem KYB suspension on the 09-12 CRF450r models is essentially the same as the YZ / YZF SSS 06+ units. The difference is from a marketing ploy from Yamaha naming theirs SSS & Honda used the AOS name. The suspension is very good once it's set up by FC as they did a lot of R&D work on these bikes with the Geico team.

I've got a set of 07 Showa FC B-kit suspension on a 3rd gen AF CR250r & feel the reworked FC KYB components are just as good on the 450.

Agree totally on the comments about the 2012 CRFs (I have both the 250F and 450F). Very solid and comfortable bikes which I never bothered to sell when I purchased newer models.

OEM clutches are terrible on both, especially the 450. Either on or off and constantly adjusting the free play. A billet basket and a magura hydraulic set-up fixed that. The 450 motor really benefits from a remap, and the 250F is just plain slow, but responds well to a cam, pipe and remap. The fuel filters are prone to blockage too, so I would recommend the Twin Air tank sock for added security, and frequent oil changes as the injectors are known to leak and contaminate the oil if left sitting.

I'm with you guys on this Generation Hondas. Very light and nimble feeling.

I had a 2009 CRF450R with what FC dubbed "B" kit suspension, pro circuit pull rod, full Hinson 6 spring clutch and Yosh exhaust. I bought it off a good friend of mine who was the site mechanic at South of the Border in 2013 after spending a good year on a YZ250 two stroke (never jived with it). I loved this bike and in 2014 when my finances were right I purchased a 2014 CRF450R thinking it would be more of the same but honestly I never liked it as much.

Crazy how things like that happen.

I just received these in the mail today. These are 09-12 or 13 model KTM front brake master cylinders.

I'll have to wait on the exhaust for a little bit. I'm waiting for a guy I used to ride with quite often to get back with me on his exhaust.

I was able to clean these with a sand blaster from Tractor Supply. Only I used Arm and Hammer baking soda. I meant to take a picture before but I was just trying it out and was amazed at how well it was working.

Did the same to the 2012 450f's I have. Fuel sock a must, Magura Hydr is great. Still my favorite 450 to date.

I'll definitely look into it. I probably haven't had the issue because I only run VP 110, which I buy by the drum (54gal). I clean the siphon and drum cap before and after every use. I also clean my fuel jug regularly. I also do realize that race fuel is not necessary.

I regularly change the oil, usually 2-3 rides. It just depends on conditions and how much I actually rode that day. I use Royal Purple in the engine side and Honda brand oil in the transmission side.

With the fuel sock, it's not so much to filter the fuel, but more to stop any dirt and dust particles getting into the tank when refueling. I know it seems over the top, but I have restored plenty of older bikes where I could have built a sandcastle out of what I found stuck to the inside of the fuel tap. It just builds up over time and the teabag filters on the CRFs are prone to blocking. I learned the hard way when my 250F cut out on the start line and that was me for the day. $20 pre-filter is a great precaution.

I also have a spare Hinson 6 spring set-up for the 450F (everything but the basket) after I changed it to a Rekluse .

I found some more issues with the cases. So I guess I'll be ordering those soon.

I paid $1500. I initially told him there's no way I'm buying that bike. Mainly because he wanted $2000. But then everyone I called on Craigslist wouldn't return my call when I tried to got look at their bike. So I just said hell with it and offered him $1500 because it at least ran.

Yeah that's why I asked. Moto Tassinari is clearancing them outAnd they're not planning on making more. I can get one for $150; I just wanted to know it was worth it. I'm going to get a new air boot anyway. The one that was on the bike doesn't look that great. By that I mean it's just a little ugly.

If your looking at replacing the stock one anyways i would spend the extra money on the Moto Tassinari for sure.

I have seen dyno runs in the past with the filter screen removed on the older CRF450r carbed models. There were no gains to be had. Do the 09+ efi models benefit from that mod ?

I did it to my 06 and 07 450s. I noticed better throttle response. When I bought my 2012 250 I already had a Twin Power Flow filter to go in it. I didn't bother riding it with the stock filter and air screen.
