Automobile audio retailers have been hopping mad. Automobile makers are placing souped-up stereos into brand new cars. Freedom of choice, state the merchants.

Few customers, the car music retailers assert, are that committed. What is the Difference between Coaxial and Component speakers (

The merchants simply may have some point. The hottest Chain Store Age/ / Leo J. Shapiro & Associates MarkeTrends survey reveals that 54 percent of households expect to purchase their next vehicle stereo directly along with the automobile--directly from the merchant.

When only people that are getting a new automobile are believed, the information gets even worse. According to the poll, 71 percent of new car buyers state that they'll buy their next automobile sound system by a new dealership.

Families purchasing a car stereo to get a used car provide the merchant a better rest. From the survey, 74.2 percent of families purchasing an automobile sound system to get a used auto report which they'll purchase from a retail outlet, rather than from a trader. The one issue is that buys for used automobiles amount to just about one-fifth of their entire marketplace, says that the poll.

It's a issue with tremendous fiscal implications for both the auto and consumer electronics businesses. And that amount doesn't include the tens of thousands of components shipped already set up by foreign auto makers.

Considering how long customers have been listening to their own present automobile sound system, it's no wonder that this class is currently shooting off. On the average, households in the analysis report that they use their own automobile stereo 8.3 hours each week.

Customers look fairly inclined to back their own investment in time using a healthy investment in bucks to acquire what they desire.

This average doesn't reveal, however, is that a continuous upward price creep off in the low end. Three decades past, about one-fifth of those MarkeTrends households said that they planned on spending less than 150 to get a automobile stereo. This season, just 12.3% report that they expect to state that amount.

And unlike three decades back, once the economy was fragmenting to only the low and high ends, the present market is based squarely in the center selection.

Instead, AM/FM radios have come to be the norm for auto sound systems. At the latest survey, a whopping 87 percent record that an AM/FM radio will undoubtedly be a part of their next automobile stereo.

Cassette tape players are just another close must. About 3 out of 4 households in the poll state that they certainly would buy a cassette tape player as a portion of the second system. A surprisingly large 10% record which they need a compact disc player in their car the second time out.

Just 55 percent of those households in the survey state that auto-reverse is still an important due to their auto cassette player. The ability to preset preferred radio channels is a definite requirement for a remarkably low 50%. Just 43 percent are certainly looking for automatic scanning.

Sophistication about auto sound itself looks just like the very best predictor of these households that want to have more advanced features. Individuals who now have a car stereo using both the AM/FM radio and a cassette tape player are more inclined to desire additional features compared to the people whose present automobile system has only an AM/FM radioreceiver.

So far as manufacturer proceeds, the field is still wide open. If asked what kind of automobile sound system that they expect to purchase, 46 percent of those MarkeTrends families can't develop the title of a new. One of the 54 percent that don't a new taste, Pioneer is your customer's best choice.

Delco's strong performance at the MarkeTrends research once again exemplifies the difficulty faced by auto sound retailers: They face competition not just one of them, but also from auto dealers and producers.

At the market, electronics specialty shops--and also the superstores specifically--have run off with a major chunk of their company. About 40 percent of all families that plan to purchase in the aftermarket report that they expect to earn their purchase at among their electronic equipment specialists.

Discount shops rank a distant second on these specialists. According to the survey, just 8 percent of households interviewed title a discount store as the area to get a car stereo. K mart, alone, takes a 5 percent discuss. Click here to read how to choose the best car speakers (

On the other hand, the research's worst thing arrives to Sears. Just 1 percent of those households in the poll state that they'll purchase their next vehicle stereo in the country's biggest retailer. Before MarkeTrends surveys, Sears has believed about 5 percent of overall aftermarket sales.
