Finally spoke with my wallet and picked up a 2007 CR125R! Current game plan is to keep her relatively stock and simply freshen her up...
*New implying like new with low hours; If I had to guess, I'd estimate less than 4-5hrs...Can safely assume this because the nipples are still on the original tires, it has stock EVERYTHING (grips, bars, levers, chain, sprockets, nuts/bolts, faded fork guards, etcetera), and it looks immaculate in person. Oh yeah, also because when discussing the bikes' history, the owner looked at me rather funny when I asked what premix oil and ratio he ran...Thats' right, he rode this thing one weekend chasing his son around on a CRF50 and didn't realize straight gas isn't the hot ticket in a 125 2T!
Both the top and bottom end were toast
And that just means more to add during parts ordering. I swear this is half the fun when bringing bikes back from the dead. Packages arrive throughout the week and you know that, once assembled, it will all pay off the first time you hit that berm/rut/jump just right...
Luckily, with the help of Q&E and AHM Factory services, the cylinder was salvageable and the bottom end rebuild came together faster than anticipated. Some shops don't appreciate it when a customer drops off a box of OE parts and a seized motor, but they took it in and made it a gem again.
Honda OEM parts are some of the cheapest around, and I couldn't believe a new crank could be had for less than $150...Plus, there's no way any 4T could be rebuilt for what's been spent thus far. For a bit extra, AHM was able to shine her up and remove years of oxidation from being parked in a SoCal garage.
With the rolling chassis patiently waiting, I decided to splurge and upgrade to Ti footpegs. Found these Lightspeed's at a fraction of the cost for new Raptors: $127.50 shipped!

With the rolling chassis and engine together as one, next week's goal is to get the suspension serviced: Hopefully just oil, seals, and springs, but (as evidenced with the engine) you just never know with such projects!

You'd think someone would look at a 2 stroke and be like "What's the giant balloon in the exhaust, what's it for? Why does my bike sound like a bunch of bees?" Then they'd read up on 2 strokes and learn to use premix...
Sweet bike though.

Very happy with how it all came together. Since it was a frame-up rebuild, every nut and bolt has been reassembled with either Loctite or Mobil1 grease. It's hard to tell, but I touched up the linkage arm when greasing the linkage assembly and it was much easier than anticipated (pretty satisfied with the updated appearance as well). For now, I simply had Shock Therapy spring the suspension for my weight (88kg's) and freshen up the seals and oil. Dropped it off on a Monday and had it back on the bike Wednesday night; can't beat that turnaround! After two break in rides, I'm pretty impressed with how good the stock valving is. Not going to rule out a revalve in the future, but for now it's better than expected. The ability to leave the stock settings alone is likely aided by the fact that this is the slowest full-size bike I've ever ridden! Seriously, more compression or maybe a call to Varner will wake this thing up, but it's ridiculously slow. I've read that the 05-07 CR's were more competitive in their class, yet compared to my brother's 2006 YZ125 this bike can barely get out of it's way (the 5-speed transmission doesn't help, either). All said and done, I'm super pumped (missing Dungey's podium verbiage already) on the project: In less than 3 weeks it's back up and running, I know everything's been properly assembled by quality tuners, and it's a blast to shred! Thanks for checking out the progress and I hope to see more Fun25 projects in the future

Nothing nothing nothing, go for a few hundred rpms then nothing again.
It gave me a new respect for how fast my friend was because he can make this bike fly. I will say the cr turned and stayed in the ruts better than the yz. Probably the combination of good frame and low non snappy power.
