Finally spoke with my wallet and picked up a 2007 CR125R! Current game plan is to keep her relatively stock and simply freshen her up...

*New implying like new with low hours; If I had to guess, I'd estimate less than 4-5hrs...Can safely assume this because the nipples are still on the original tires, it has stock EVERYTHING (grips, bars, levers, chain, sprockets, nuts/bolts, faded fork guards, etcetera), and it looks immaculate in person. Oh yeah, also because when discussing the bikes' history, the owner looked at me rather funny when I asked what premix oil and ratio he ran...Thats' right, he rode this thing one weekend chasing his son around on a CRF50 and didn't realize straight gas isn't the hot ticket in a 125 2T!

Both the top and bottom end were toast Sad

And that just means more to add during parts ordering. I swear this is half the fun when bringing bikes back from the dead. Packages arrive throughout the week and you know that, once assembled, it will all pay off the first time you hit that berm/rut/jump just right...

Luckily, with the help of Q&E and AHM Factory services, the cylinder was salvageable and the bottom end rebuild came together faster than anticipated. Some shops don't appreciate it when a customer drops off a box of OE parts and a seized motor, but they took it in and made it a gem again.

Honda OEM parts are some of the cheapest around, and I couldn't believe a new crank could be had for less than $150...Plus, there's no way any 4T could be rebuilt for what's been spent thus far. For a bit extra, AHM was able to shine her up and remove years of oxidation from being parked in a SoCal garage.

With the rolling chassis patiently waiting, I decided to splurge and upgrade to Ti footpegs. Found these Lightspeed's at a fraction of the cost for new Raptors: $127.50 shipped!

With the rolling chassis and engine together as one, next week's goal is to get the suspension serviced: Hopefully just oil, seals, and springs, but (as evidenced with the engine) you just never know with such projects!

Thank You for checking out my current build and if anyone has any quality CR125 SoCal jetting specs (OE pipe/silencer/carb, VForce, stock compression), I'd greatly appreciate some inside info Cool

Huge thanks to these guys for getting me where I'm at in such a short amount of time (+/- 7 days):

Can't wait to see how this turns out. You've done in 7 days what's taken me like...6 months. I can't believe the previous owner managed to do that much damage in such a short time.

You'd think someone would look at a 2 stroke and be like "What's the giant balloon in the exhaust, what's it for? Why does my bike sound like a bunch of bees?" Then they'd read up on 2 strokes and learn to use premix...

Sweet bike though.

Good looking bike, looks like the piston and ring have bonded, lol, joking aside, the bike will serve you well once completed, oh, and they handle great. Good score.

Forge jetting, get a airstriker for it.

Nice build! Smile
Agreed. Get rid of that stock crap and switch to the PWK and forget the constant jetting.

Moved and 2nded, motion passes! Tongue For real though, get an air striker. I had to mess with the carb on my '05 about once a month to keep it running correctly. If the wind was blowing a different direction I would have to change something. Got an airstriker and I kick myself for not doing it sooner.

Thanks, I hear you guys! Haha trying to keep it OE for now, though. I'm assuming you're both running 75mm modern Keihin's (not the long body 91mm ones...), but what jetting specs and with/without TPS? Was there any setting that was at least close with the stock Mikuni? YZ125 needle swap, lean out the pilot from overly rich OE setup, anything? Hoping 100 octane leaded fuel will keep it consistent and clean...

I'm running the long body on my 07 250 (yeah it's a bit tight) and tps disconnected. JD jetting jets (bought the carb from them too). I'll I've done is drop the needle one clip.

I will likely get one from JD for my 07 125 in the near future too.

Great bike, dont know how someone doesn't realize you have to mix the gas.

I know, right? Probably didn't help that he seemed to be quite a character and had also purchased the straight gas running CRF50...Either way, it's back up and running now Cool

A few more build photos and information:

Perfect fitment on the LightSpeed pegs with fresh chain and sprockets.

Stoked to support USA Made and even more pleased with the competitive price-point and old school look. (Yes, sprocket bolts are properly torqued)

Fresh A'ME Grips, black 971 Renthals, and WC clutch assembly. I'm hard on seat covers and have had great luck with these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/FLU-BLACK-RED-PLEATED-GRIPPER-SEAT-COVER-HONDA-…

Very happy with how it all came together. Since it was a frame-up rebuild, every nut and bolt has been reassembled with either Loctite or Mobil1 grease. It's hard to tell, but I touched up the linkage arm when greasing the linkage assembly and it was much easier than anticipated (pretty satisfied with the updated appearance as well). For now, I simply had Shock Therapy spring the suspension for my weight (88kg's) and freshen up the seals and oil. Dropped it off on a Monday and had it back on the bike Wednesday night; can't beat that turnaround! After two break in rides, I'm pretty impressed with how good the stock valving is. Not going to rule out a revalve in the future, but for now it's better than expected. The ability to leave the stock settings alone is likely aided by the fact that this is the slowest full-size bike I've ever ridden! Seriously, more compression or maybe a call to Varner will wake this thing up, but it's ridiculously slow. I've read that the 05-07 CR's were more competitive in their class, yet compared to my brother's 2006 YZ125 this bike can barely get out of it's way (the 5-speed transmission doesn't help, either). All said and done, I'm super pumped (missing Dungey's podium verbiage already) on the project: In less than 3 weeks it's back up and running, I know everything's been properly assembled by quality tuners, and it's a blast to shred! Thanks for checking out the progress and I hope to see more Fun25 projects in the future Cool

Very clean bike. I had a 2005 yz125 and my friend had an 06 or 07 cr125 and I agree that bike is amazingly slow compared to the yz.
Nothing nothing nothing, go for a few hundred rpms then nothing again.
It gave me a new respect for how fast my friend was because he can make this bike fly. I will say the cr turned and stayed in the ruts better than the yz. Probably the combination of good frame and low non snappy power.

As a youngster, my favorite 125 pilot was Ernesto Fonseca. His travels to the US, clean & fluid style, and constant progression made me an absolute fan. Didn't hurt that his YOT/HRC bikes were always dialed, he rocked the early TLD classics, and his use of the speed wings was second to only MC. Although he's been quieter, industry wise, post-crash, his continued competitive spirit and positive drive are apparent on social platforms. For these reasons, and the fact that he raced the last HRC 125 in 02', I decided to finish off the 07' with an HRC tribute to The Fonz.

Great tribute build! I remember an amateur event at High Point, every helmet had a EF10 decal for support.
