After 6 long years off the bike, I stumbled onto this gem last December... I grew up riding Suzuki’s, so this is a platform I knew I was comfortable/familiar with. I’m 27, we had our first kiddo a few months ago and I’m in the midst of running my own business as well now. Needless to say it’s somewhat of a budget build but I plan to continue building it over the next year or so. Nothing exotic, no ti parts, just a solid running, strong 125. Here’s the photos when purchased.

Over the last 6-7 months I’ve cleaned a ton of parts and bought a few small misc items... this is after the initial cleanup...

Here’s how it sits now. Still have plans for wheels, powdercoat, graphics, bars, vforce and some other obvious items but I’m super excited to see where it was to where it is.

Guess the previous owner didn’t own a hose or have water? Grinning

Bike cleaned up really nice and looks in good shape.

Yes unbelievable ha! I won’t pretend like I’m mr mechanic but this is the 2nd 05 I’ve had. I tried a cheaper plug in the last one, made sure it was gapped correctly etc and it blew up 2 rides later Silly Could’ve just been coincidence but since then I’ve ran that stupid $30 plug without any issues lol

Yep total lack of general maintenance, he had it listed on Craig’s as on 04 as well. I don’t think he really knew what he had on his hands as I only paid $1100 for it!

That’s actually a pro circuit works pipe/r304 silencer I sent to Scott at piperepair.. he did an awesome job. Haven’t had to play with jetting yet.. runs really crisp as is so I don’t want to mess with what works. Though I would like to take one of the Lectron carbs for a test ride Whistling

I really like how this bikes turning out. I think the rmz front and cut down side plates really give it a more modern look.

what did you do with the suspension. i sent mine to factory connection and i love it. a little pricey but well worth it. everything else i kept stock. i did tires sprockets chain grips levers, linkage bearings, steering bearings, cleaned carb and a top end kit cause it had never been rebuilt. next on my list my wheel bearings and swing arm bearings. i want wheels and exhaust but i'm already 2800$ in. i love riding it. i even raced it one time in 25+ and did fairly well. i had to work really hard tho

Yeah they’re a blast to ride. I’ve owned an 01, 03, and 2 05s now. Vowed to never sell this one ha! No suspension plans yet.

My experience left me with mixed feelings. They shipped my pipe to Utah and I ended up with a pipe for an older yz250. It was gone for over a month. But when I finally did get it back he sent me a free t shirt and a sizable discount coupon along with a bunch of stickers etc. so I was happy in the end and would recommend to a friend as long as they weren’t in a hurry to ride.

Then I ended up splurging on the aluminum tank ? aside from fitting like complete dogshit, looks wise I was very happy after a few minor modifications. So off with the graphics and a new set of twinwalls. Cleaned a few other parts and pieces. Waiting for work to pick back up this spring for powdercoat and wheels/hubs.

ive owned a number of rm125's, dont mess with the plug, the price does suck but it was specially designed for the bike, the electrode is a unique design, i seem to remember something about the engine vibration being a factor.

id get some motor work done and upgrade the clutch. I had an 04 rm125 built for racing and it was a rocket and i was 200lbs

Going for something similar on an 05 YZ250, what did you use to get the rims looking like that?

Duct tape in a few spots is to try and help decide on colors.. Few more bits and pieces added/subtracted.. Still have some items on the wishlist, but haven’t had the time or extra funds ha! Hopefully this winter I can make some more progress.
