I was looking through Facebook Marketplace the other day when something caught my eye. It is a 1994 GasGas EC 125. After driving about 7 hours round trip yesterday this bad boy is mine. It’s a very cool bike, nickel plated frame, TM engine, Ohlins shock, Marzocchi forks and a lot of other cool bits. I have found a small amount of info on the bike but not much. From what I’ve gathered there were 10 of these imported in 1994, they were imported for the ISDE in Oklahoma. All the bikes were sold from one shop, KRW in the Dayton/Tory, Ohio area. I figure since 10 were imported in 1994 this may possibly be the last one.

I’ll try to document the build a little better then I have on my other builds. I can’t wait to take a spin on this thing.

Not quite sure yet. The linkage looks just like my 93 KX and so does a lot of the other chassis parts. The motor uses a lot of CR parts, like the piston. What I think will be hard to find is the plastics. The rear number plates and part of the rear fender (it’s 2 pieces) are also the same as my 93 KX just the nuclear red Honda color. I plan to buy black KX side panels and possibly are rear fender, and a nuclear red Honda fender for the front. I’m pretty sure I’ll never find a set of shrouds, they are not cracked and are usable. I will have to take my time and try to clean them up.

That is cool, TM engine and Delorto carb.
Is that muffler a Acerbis C35 carbon fiber unit? They are super rare but make great power. I would refurb it if its a C35.

That’s a rather unique find, was this bike actually raced in the six day?

Hi there,
there is a guy in germany who did import GasGas Bikes untill the spanish company was killed by KTM
If you re looking for parts- he might have what u need.

I never had any problems getting parts for a 1999 EC250- the availability of parts here in europe was good (easier to get parts for a 20year old gasgas than a 15year old KTM)

for the engine parts TM does also have a good reputation for spares- but i know for sure not all parts a available from TM anymore- you might have to retrofit clutch and gearbox parts...

I'm about 99% sure it is an Acerbis carbon fiber silencer. I'm going to do what I can to save it, but it is cracked and the bracket has fallen apart. My plan is coat it with fiberglass resin to try to hold it together and then use a Bud Racing carbon silencer bracket.

So yesterday I disassembled the bike. It came apart pretty easy for the most part. The only thing I've had trouble with is the rear axel, its currently soaking in PB Blaster.

I found a couple things during the tear down. This bike has had a rough life. Both wheels are bent, the front one is cracked in a couple places. The drain plug has been replaced with a rubber plug, the the threads look like they can be repaired.

The front brake caliper has a magnet and part of the wiring for what looks like an old enduro computer. The bike has some paint markings and the plastic is faded around some old stickers, this makes me think that this bike either raced ISDE or a qualifier.

What a cool and unique bike. I have a soft spot for old two stroke enduros. Around 2006-2007 when I was in Elementary school we had a book in the library that was pretty much an intro to motorcycles and was all pictures of 1990s GNCCs. A lot of RMXs, WRs, CREs, and cool Euro bikes like what you have. I rode at the time, but that book was all I had to try and show my friends what I did. Wish I could still find it, I wrote many book reports on it.

Great find and good luck tracking down parts. On facebook those vintage gasgas/tm bikes have a decent following in the euro fullsize 80cc circles. That would be as good a place as any to start looking things up.

I was fortunate enough to attend the ISDE 92,93,94 and see these bikes up close and personal. Those GasGas and TM bikes were sooooooo trick!

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if that bike was ridden at the ISDE and tossed in the back of the distributors truck after the event or hauled off by some spectator who happened to have a big wad of cash after the final motos. SOOOO much stuff gets bartered or bought at the end of the events as people don't want to have to pack it.

Here's a couple photos from the 94 ISDE with "maybe your bike".

I was in the garage looking over some of the bike parts and noticed something cool. The GasGas logo on the tank is actually made in the tank, not a decal.

Also, I looked the silencer over. The picture below shows the damage. Hopefully I can coat it with resin and save it.

I spoke with the company who imported the bike today, the guy I talked to said that he remembers only 5-6 of these being imported. Either way if 5 or 10 were imported, I’m sure there isn’t too many left.

Man thats pretty cool, Last year I picked up an EC200 pretty cheap, spent about 500 bucks thoroughly servicing it including a full suspension overhaul, mostly pulled everything apart cleaned it and gave it the bar essentials. Was a solid bike but the guy I bought it off had no idea. I was going to use it as an enduro trail bike but im not one for enduro very much and it was a bit slow for my liking so I put it up for sale, my phone nearly blew up with enquiries, I had no trouble selling it. Such a cool bike, Had a Keihin 38 PWK, Hydraulic clutch, Ohlins shock, WP 43 bladder forks, Gas Gas was cast into everything, the fuel tank was translucent and had marks at every litre so you could see at a glance how many litres left in the tank, one of the longest silencers ever but it started super easy and had such smooth power. I had fun on it but was just a bit too soft for me.

I have a 99 EC200, I see a lot of my 99 in your 94. You mentioned KX plastic on the rear fender and side plates?? The early 97-99 GG used KX air box, CR air filter, KX rear fender and side plates. The problem is that the KX plastic is green or black and the GG used non KX traditional colors with the same styling and mounting points.

This should be a very cool build.

The British Champion: Paul EDMONDSON, in the 90' he was finisher of the extrem enduro race: "Gilles Lallay classic" with a 125cc.
He was considered for an Hero for that.

So a small update on the bike. I've started gathering parts and cleaning some of the aluminum pieces. This thing says Gas Gas everywhere. I have most of the parts to put the chassis together and Ralf at TM has been a great help finding engine parts. I still need to get the frame coated, then I can start putting it together. Hopefully I will be able to race this thing at Vintage Days this year.

Made a small amount of progress on the bike today. cleaned the subframe, airbox and triple clamps. I decided to have the framed powder coated to clean up most of the rust and then clear coated. I can't find someone to replate the frame and since I can't find the original plastic I figure this will look just fine.

I started cleaning the swingarm, I need to remove a couple broken bolts and have the holes repaired. My engine parts should be here tomorrow and I dropped the shock off last week for a rebuild.

Alot of the bolts have this cool turtle logo on them.

I have a new seat cover on the way, a red and black one. It should look a lot better than the yellow and blue one.

So a small update on the bike.

I made a trip to Dayton, OH a few Saturdays ago to talk to Kirk at KRW Cycles. Kirk originally purchased the 10 1994 GasGas machines that were sent here for the 1994 ISDE that took place in Oklahoma. GasGas did not want to mess with shipping all the bike back to Spain so he purchased them. He stated that out of the 10 bikes he had one new one and the rest were ISDE bikes. All the ISDE bike had the Acerbis carbon silencer, and Excel rims. My bike has the silencer by not Excel rims. The rims that are on the bike are mangled so the they may have been changed at some point. It's cool to learn a little history on the bike.

Since the last update I have rebuilt the forks, sent the shock off to be rebuilt, split the cases, changed the seat cover and tracked down a few other parts that I need. Finding parts for this thing is like a treasure hunt, a lot of the parts were utilized from other brands. I've found KX chassis parts, Honda engine parts, YZ clutch parts and KTM brakes.

I'm thinking gold rims will look good on this thing.

Awesome bike..early to mid 90's enduro was so cool..

For the silencer I would order some carbon and quality epoxy resin and grind a V and drill holes in the end of the cracks and fill it with thickened epoxy (I use a mix of west systems 403/404 filler) Then wrap it with another layer of carbon..if you prep it really well it should work good

I have the spark arrestor version of that silencer E.35. A coat or two of resin should fix it. Id stick with basic resin, the West system stuff can be tricky.

Slowly making progress. The engine is in the frame, shock and rear suspension is on. I still need to order a few small parts from TM for the motor. Things like, water pump bearing, kick starter spring retainer, clutch dampers. Hopefully I can button up the bottom end soon.

I have all the parts to rebuild the brakes, but I can't seem to get the pistons out of the calipers. I tried pumping air in to them but the pistons didn't move.

This might go on the back burner for a while, I just picked up a 1980 Husqvarna OR 390. I have a few things I want to do to the 390, but it is a good running bike. It just needs a few cosmetic things.

I have heard that people have used grease gun successfully for removing stuck brake piston although I have never tried that myself

The linkage and swingarm bearings are the same as a 92-93 KX 125. The only difference I found were the sleeves that ride on the bearings. The bolts on the GasGas linkage are smaller than the KX bearings. I just cleaned the inner race and reused them. The seals on the swingarm are different too.
